Small sculptures are often refered to as __________art?

I just got done learning the term "maquette." It is a small version of what a final sculpture will look like. These are made because they require less materials and time than the final product.

Other than that I cannot think of another term that would apply. Hope you get it right!

The answer could be miniature art - or a special type of Japanese miniature sculptures called Netsuke - carved toggles for men's costumes.

There is the term,a french word, for small sculptural studies for larger works, maquette : a usually small preliminary model (as of a sculpture or a building)

However when the word "maquette" is used it isn't followed by the word "art".

Small sculptures of a certain size are sometimess referred to as table-top sculptures. I guess they might be called table top art by someone, somewhere.
