Small engine repair .14 hp kawasaki on an old john deere won't start but got

spark and gas? was cranking engine and tried grounding spark wire to metal seen no spark traced it back to ignition harness where it plugs into ignition key switch it was oxidized and dirty cleaned it up and got constance spark now .fuel is making it to the carburetor , after cranking the engine for a bit it must load up with fuel and backfires quit loudly ( shoot gun blast) was on line looking for repair or trouble shooting guides.any ideas or web sites that might help are appreciated.
 
kawasaki makes a great lawn mower motor ut like all small engines low oil or not changing oil results in damaged cylinders do a compression check
 
sounds like key on flywheel is sheared. this will change timing enough to make motor backfire. if this is the problem , do not replace with a steel key. put in aluminun key. this is a safegaurd for the motor
