Small Dinghy (Rib) with yamaha engine shortshaft, would a long-shaft engine be quicker?

The prop often comes out the water when trying to increase speed, friends 4h.p's (not yamaha) go faster??

if your inflatable has a 15" transom then the short shaft motor is the correct size for it. buying a long shaft motor would not be faster. it would just create more drag. if its a 20" transom then the long shaft is the correct size.

a 4hp is not going to propel you rib very fast. you may need to adjust the rake of the motor on the transom. shifting weight toward the stern may help keep the motor in the water
