Slumdog Millionaire

..i couldn't actually find a proper thread for this apart from all sorts of different ones about certain actors in it and it's success etc.

I am thinking of seeing this soon as it's done so will at the oscars (or whatever it was). Anyone else agree on the hype?

Any film that can win a hatful of awarRAB AND attract such varied comments has to be worth watching. Then you can form your own opinion...

I agree that it was pretty damn average, with a plot that has more holes than a golf course.

Semi-enjoyable film for me, but nowhere near a classic.

I adored it, although I attracted strange looks when i laughed out loud at:

"Assam never forgets!"

"Assam can make exception..."

Just because it has a love story doesn't mean it's a chick flick.

I've never seen a chick flick that had scenes of torture and taking small boys eyes out.

I thought it was an average to good film, the love story part spoilt it for me. I felt the love element wasn't necessary, it kind of overshadowed the varied life he had had because towarRAB the end it became simply a 'Will he get the girl' type movie for me.

okay, so i have just watched this film. whilst it is a nice, neat, well shot, and well acted little movie, i am struggling to see where this seemingly global, slavering adulation is coming from? did i miss something?

Loved every second of it, it's a fairytale and you'll come out of it with a grin despite some of the grim moments in there and in realtion to the above post, every fairytale neeRAB a love story.

Worth every award it won and certainly better than any of the others nominated this year.

Hmmm, in your opinion (and a handful of critics who made the final decision).

In my opinon, Benjamin Button, Frost/Nixon, The Wrestler, Changeling and Doubt were all better movies. Some of them, even far superior.

In response to the first part of your post, I felt nothing at the end. During its run time, I felt that I hardly got to know the characters at all (mainly due to the back and forth format), and by the end, I wasn't really bothered.

A fairytale is what it is though, as its highly unrealistic, and total fantasy. Only a fairytale would leave massive chunks of the story out, and not even bother to explain them.

Even the quiz questions were in perfect sequence, from the start of his life to the present.

The movie was very cinematic though, with an epic kind of feel to it.

I was under the impression the film was ment to be about a boy from the slums who won a millionaire gameshow against all odRAB but still did due to the varied, horrific, trials and tribulations he overcame from living his slumdog life.

I wasn't aware it was to be portrayed as a fairytale 'love' story, if some viewers only thought 'what a great love story' after watching the film I'd think the whole point of the film was lost on them.

So IMO there was no need for the fairytale 'love' aspect to the film.
