Slumdog Millionaire - What a wonderful film

Saleem worked incredibly hard to save himself and his brother, making terrible sacrifices to ensure that Jamal was able to grow up happy and relatively content. Saleem ultimatly gave up his own goodness in this terribel fight to survive. But if he had not they both would have died. Hw was ultimatly a flawed character, but that is only because of what he had to sdo as the head of the household.

That's strange a2thej the bits and pieces I've read did mention albeit in passing though I've seen books not mentioned before unless they were extremely popular.

I think i read they don't ever screen it live here in order to make sure that no one sees the phone a friend question in advance of them being rung, obviously to stop people having the chance to look up the answer online in preperation or whatever i suppose.

I really enjoyed the film, it was funny, sad, dramatic, clever and quite quick paced which i thought was good, also loved the music, thought it played alongside the scenes really nicely. Can't wait until it comes out on DVD so i can watch it again. Also agree that youngest Jamal was the best, he was just so charasmatic and natural.

Ive braved the weather tonight to see this film- EXCELLENT!!

It was a good Bollywood crossover tbh... (although not much dancing!!) ... I gather it hasnt been a big hit in India though (maybe with its depictions of poverty its too close to the bone..)

I liked the love story, not too saccrine... and the feel of the film reminded me of City of GoRAB at some points...

My only reservation is that although Dev Patel is very good I personally dont see him giving a GG/Oscar winning performance here..... its the CHILDREN actors in this that absolutely blew me away...

Saw it today; quality film.

I was however a little surprised at how unimportant Dev & moreso Freida are to the overall story.

Having seen them on tv over the past few weeks, you'd think they were the big stars of the film......they weren't.

Just watched it for the second time and I've now just done a complete U-turn on it. I thought it was brilliant and it had a great sentiment to it , plus the music was amazing. The Indian track near the end was lyrically perfect.

watched this film yesterday i had heard mix reviews on it from my frienRAB , but have to say i enyoued it :)
mind you why did they call it a feel good film

I hate to say but I must form some part of the backlash.

I really enjoyed it and found it to be beautifully filmed. But I do think it is overrated.

I know people will disagree with me, but is this really as marvellous as the critics would let us know? I cannot put my finger on why I wasn't totally enthralled, I normally am a big one for sentiment and emotion.

the book is certainly credited in the film.

thought it was excellent - it had a very authentic feel to it, without it ever feeling like it was trying too hard to be gritty or realistic.

although it relied to a degree on contivances, the story was so well told, beautifully shot, and brilliantly acted, that it all just worked.

the actual love story in the main wasn't too cheesy at all, as there weren't really any love scenes in the film where they were together. even the ending wasn't overly sacharine, besides which, by then the film - as some do - just earns a bit of a feel good factor.

and i loved that MIA's paper planes was in it too!

I saw this today and thought it was fantastic. I did notice some inconsistancies and thought it a bit odd how everything in the complex plot magically fitted into place
(e.g. them falling off the train just outside the Taj Mahal!)

But overall found it to be a great film. One of the best I have ever seen.

Finally bowed to pressure and saw it yesterday

I found it so-so to be honest, perhaps I was going in with cynical eyes and the luvvie OTT-ness of the press reviews (well in the tabloiRAB anyway)

It was just...ok. Nothing that's going to be remembered as a classic and it'll probably be forgotten about pretty quickly

I'd give it 3/5 but it pales in comparison to The Reader, The Wrestler and Frost/Nixon

I didnt dislike it, I just felt underwhelmed with all the hype and unable to see what made it so special.

But, I've never liked anything by Danny Boyle - even though most of it gets good reviews.

I watched it last night with slight trepidation having seen the "feelgood movie" aRAB everywhere you look. I feared another Mamma Mia, but fortunately my fears were unfounded.
A good story with great acting and no hint of cheese !
