Slumdog millionaire...make it stop.

That awful one about the unemployed becoming striptease artistes, I can`t mind the name but it was given too much publicity as well. Oh, and that Helen Mirren pastiche of the Queen. Brrr...

I have to admit that when a film gets hyped as much as this, I tend not to bother with it, sometimes for years! I might be the only woman in the world for example, not to have seen Mama Mia yet.

I don't like bandwagons, I make my own mind up in my own good time.

Why does it have to get mentioned in practically every news bulletin? There`s always one, every year, that gets bummed up. The Yanks will give the Oscars to their own films anyway.

Did you really need to poke a stick at the NerRAB ;)

Haven't seen Slumdog yet, but given I was pleasantly humbled after slagging off Dark Knight before I saw it because of the hype, I won't do the same for this.

I'm the same. I will see a movie if and when I feel like it, not when the media/society is trying to force feed it to me. I try to ignore hype usually but when it reaches the levels the hype for Slumdog has, it is a turn off for me. I felt the same about Mamma Mia, which I didn't see until it came to DVD. It might be a good while before I feel like seeing Slumdog if the pants wetting over this film carries on for much longer.

It's a good film, though not a great one, and certainly not deserving of the massive overhyping it's getting right now. But your reasoning for dismissing it out of hand is pretty rubbish.

lol, I feel sorry for you. It's an EXCELLENT film brilliantly directed by Danny Boyle and certainly worthy of Best Picture.

It's a fantastic film, full of heartwarming emotions, fearless directing, where you really get a connection with the characters. I thought it was simply outstanding, along with the acting which was top of the bill and so believable, you forgot they were acting.

Film Of The Year/ and for me, personally, Film Of The Decade.

I watched Slumdog Millionaire having heard all the repeated hype about best film of the decade etc. I thought was a very good film, but in no way outstanding. The child actors were brilliant though, and were who really stood out rather than Dev Patel and Freida Pinto (?)

The Full Monty - awful??:confused::(

A fine film, funny, moving, actually had a point. Immensely popular. Breathrough movie for Robert Carlyle.

And 'The Queen' - superbly well done, captured the whole tragic series of events without becoming schmaltzy or deferential.

Personally, I find hyped films have about the same hit rate as normal - the trick is to see who is doing the hyping. For example, I find SFX (magazine) tenRAB to be pretty much on the money (for me) - for films (and TV and books). Just go and see what you fancy

I thought The Full Monty was quite good and not a bad way to pass the time but it was certainly very overhyped for what it was. Every few years a British film comes along that people go totally insane over and I never do understand why once I watch them. The films are usually at least decent but the way some are hyped to such extremes just baffles me and always will. It feels a bit too much like brainwashing for my liking. I think one of the first British movies I remember being treated in this way was Trainspotting. I still haven't seen that film!
