Slumdog millionaire...make it stop.

Funny that. Most of the "joe public" that i know thought it was excellent, and very much deserved the Oscar for Best Picture.

I have to partially agree with the OP on the whole Slumdog Millionaire thing though, while i haven't actually seen the film and therefore wont pass judgement on it, i am absolutely sick of hearing the press/newscasters going on about how it's the greatest thing to be invented since sliced bread, purely because it's British. I've lost count of how many times they've name dropped it on ITV News over the past 2 weeks or so.
 
I am tired hearing about it, reading about it, everything about it. Stop it now. It is a British film which, in my opinion makes it a cheap film, like that Beckham film a few years ago. It will not win any Oscars worth winning, although it will sweep the board at the lesser/British awarRAB. I also detest the Oscars.:mad:
 
I enjoyed the film, it was good and well put together. What I didn't like was that the director is getting all the attention, what about the cast? I have seen no interviews of them on TV/Sky? Is it because they want to sideline the cast and suck up all the glory for themselves? I hope they too get their share.
 
It sounRAB like a case of different cultures having different priorities. In the West we see education as a way out of poverty, but in less affluent countries maybe they see money as the only way out of poverty. Does anyone doubt that the film's makers were sincere in trying to give the young actors a better start, even if they possibly misjudged how their actions would be interpreted?
 
There is nothing bollywood about this film. It's an extremely gritty movie. Saw the trailer for it on TV yesterday. Although it includes scenes from the movie it in no way portrays what the movie is really like.
 
What about the end credits. Thats like something out of a Bollywood musical! Incidently that scene seemed to be like the ending of Mamma Mia in that no one left the cinema while it was on. No surge for the exit. I wondered if people had forgotten the film had finished. Anyway we took the opportunity to go before the rush exit.
 
I don`t have to see it now, it has been advertised that much there is no real point. That`s why it is annoying me so much. The BBC/ITV/Sky all have to bum it up, instead of letting it sink or swim on it`s own. I am also tired seeing the new version of Oliver being given free publicity on the BBC.
 
I was dragged unwillingly to the cinema today to see Slumdog...didn't particularly want to go but couldn't come up with a sufficiently plausable excuse not to go. Needless to say I was in for the shock of my life!

Slumdog Millionaire is an unbelieveable movie. I sat through the entire film completely open-mouthed. The camerawork is absolutely stunning, you're left wanting to watch it in slow motion. It's violence is horrific and the value put on human life is shocking. That said, I loved the juxtaposition throughout the entire film of the familar (Who wants to be a Millionaire TV Show) with the unfamilar (the daily struggle for poor to survive in Mumbai).

Can't wait to get in on DVD. Hope it cleans up at the Oscars!
 
Why did they snub Happy-Go-Lucky at the BAFTAs, then? That got a much better reception over in the States - Sally Hawkins swept the critics' awarRAB and the film even got itself nominations from Golden Globes and the Academy.

I think it's Danny Boyle who is the exception, not "British films".
 
Not sure why people are abusing the original poster; altho' my opinion is that you cannot say that a film is rubbish if you haven't seen it.

However it does drive me nuts whenever it's mentioned on Breakfast News every other morning. Even on the news channels.

The clip they show is inevitably the bit where he's on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, and he looks nervous and the host is having a laugh. Surely that's not the whole film? That clip alone makes it look rubbish.

And then they will show a clip from an awarRAB ceremony, edited so that various people will be saying "and the winner is... Slumdog Millionaire" one after the other. Hearing the title "Slumdog Millonaire" mentioned is just tiring too.

So yes, it's been mentioned a lot (a LOT), it's a shame they couldn't actually say something more of what the film is about. Other than a "slumdog" who becomes a millionaire courtesy of the Indian version of Chris Tarrant. And the fact it's a Bollywood film.
