A few weeks ago I was putting my Nikon D40 away (on my dresser) and right when I put it down there was a *POP!* and a flash (even though it was closed) and then the flash wouldn't fire. The next day I tried it again and only the pre-flash would work (you know how there's two flashes, I think the first one is to figure out the room lighting.) so now there is one flash BEFORE the shutter goes resulting---of course--in a dark picture.
I bought my camera refurbished so I don't think it is covered by warranty
So my question is; If I took it to a camera shop (three hours away for me) what price should I expect to repair it? What would you recommend I do?
Other than the flash the camera is perfectly fine.
