Slow Back to Home Screen

So, I have a G1 and I have been noticing that at random times the animation back to my home screen from an application, usually the Browser, will be retardedly slow.

What will happen, is that I will hit the Home button and the app that I am currently in will slide from left to right, as usual, but there will not be a home screen behind it. There will just be a screen of black for a couple of seconds. Then, the app launcher tab will appear and a few seconds later, the clock widget and the usual icons will appear. This whole process takes about 20 seconds on average when this problem takes place.

Anybody else experienced this or does anybody know if there is an app know to cause this that I might have downloaded?

try the taskiller app on the market free . it will kill the background open proccesses and help prevent that . you probably have to many apps running in the background . the g1 doest have enough ram and cant handle too many running apps and run smoothly at the same time .

I have actually been using Taskiller for a while now. I frequently kill tasks, I try not to run to many apps at once, but the problem still persists.

then there is not much you can do to prevent it besides killing background apps and keeping memory free on the phone . if rooted , you have more options .

I have the same problem. Happens all the time, even after a restart of the phone. It is so annoying. I've even overclocked the phone to 528 mhz, but it seems that it the ram that is lacking. I don't know why they didnt put more ram into the G1, everybody has this problem, and it is so basic. This is 2009, why not put more ram in the damn phone...?

I'm rooted running the Cyan build, Cyan is great, but sometimes after a new Cyan update its faster other times slower, god knows why.

Next year I'm definately going to buy a new android phone with: keyboard, amazing battery, powerful CPU, loads of RAM, loads of memory space and with a mini jack, is that too much to ask for? The G1 should have had all that from day one. I love android but I feel the G1 hardware brings it down slightly. Any one agree?

I've been running Cyan roms for two or three months now and really don't have any of the problems everybody talks about. No lag and always fast

I don't have any problems either . A while back , I did havw homescreen lag , but not anymore . Also , I'm on cyan 3.9.7 .
My biggest advice to people experiencing this problem is , remove any unnessessary widgets/shortcuts from the homescreen .

I do have a lot of shortcuts, will try to delete some and see if it helps. I'm only running 4 widgets, is that too much? Semms like these widgets takes a lot of ram. But that is so depressing, one of the really great things about android are the widgets. And if I can only use the clock and the calendar app, its very limited. There are a lot of great widgets on the market now, annoys me that I cant use any of them because of limited hardware.

I wish I was an executive at HTC and I would make sure that the phone never saw the light of day wihtout more ram, better battery and a mini jack, seriously, its just amazes me that they never thought it through better.

I have 3 widgets . Search , tunewiki , and the donut power widget . Also , have a total of 14 shortcuts on 3 screens . No problems with the home screen lagging .

I have the slow home screen issue as well. For me it doesn't seem to make a big difference how many widgets or icons I have on my home screen. I have a myTouch. I was using Cyan 4.2.13 and now 4.2.14.1.

I notice this problem after running a large program such as Browser, Maps, or certain games. The problem seems to get worse the longer it's been since a reboot.

I've considered going back to stock or reflashing. Do you guys think that would make a difference or is it simply a design issue?

Happens all the time to me, too. Despite really liking the android OS, I find myself accepting that the G1 is just slow these days.

I have similar problems with the latest cyan on my g1. It's speedy after a reboot, but if I keep my phone on for a few days, I start to see lag. It goes away again after a reboot though.
