Slipper N73 Joystick? Here's a SOLUTION!

Ok, so my rubber cement idea was good in theory but not execution. It seems that it rubs off easily and I keep having to reaply more coats. Oh well, onto the next idea. Im still thinking maybe a dab of elmers glue in the middle would be better after it dries. Ill keep thinking of things. The other thing I was thinking was maybe a small piece of latex stretched over it. That might be the best idea.
 
Commercial grade rubber cement would work...but it wouldn't dry clear. It's yellowish. You can sometimes find it in small quantities at the big box home improvement stores. It contains a much higher % of the toxic 'carrier'. Something usually like Paradichlorobenzene, Trichloroethane, Acetone, Heptane or Isopropyl alcohol. Great stuff. Just don't put it in the wrong place...it may melt the plastic...

I've been thinking of the plastic overlay like used on plier or other hand tool handles, applying like you did with the pin. Just haven't had a chance to get/look for some. Now that I have a black and white housing on the way....might be a good time to try it while swapping the housing.
 
Man these joy sticks are not a joy anymore when you surf/game a lot Nokia should get rid off these & implement the good old "D" pads! This is another reason why I like my N80ie!
 
The problem iz you said "Here's a SOLUTION" but you've yet to give any SOLUTION to the "slipper" as you've called it. I think people iz bugged by the fact that this thread has fallen into the category of useless.
 
....E50 I replaced it with is relatively nice for a joystick but the N80's is just perfect. I noticed that the E50s and E61s are more difficult to use when your fingers are tight and cold. They seem to slip right off....the N73 during cold weather was almost completely unusable due to slippage...not to mention the joystick has that odd tilt to it. Thank god the new E61i is going to go w/ a dpad rather than a joystick. Hopefully the outer phone of the E90 will incorporate a Dpad as well. The E61i will be the first E series w/o the joystick so that's a start.
 
well i guess u can say i try doing a solution here is some pics for people who don't believe me i just took off the rubber thingy on my laptop and put on me the phone (don't really work though)
 
We know how to perform the mod. That's not the issue. How do you know it works great? You haven't tried it! I'm not going to put a rubber washer on my phone's joystick cause some random guy said it'll fix my joystick without any evidence of it working.

The N80 D-pad is one reason I got rid of it.

Nokia just can't seem to get the input side right.

What they need are separated, tactile keys like the SE w800i and a D-pad with independent centre button like the Samsung D900.

The trouble with Nokia D-pads is that without an independent centre button, using the select 'button' is a nightmare - requiring extreme directional precision ... otherwise you select up, down or sideways.

And why do Nokia use such heavy button springing ?
It really slows down general usage and texting - apart from being really annoying.
Spoils their otherwise awesome phones.
Methinx their ergonomics dept is populated by gorillas.

Take a leaf out of SE's ergonomics book, Nokia !
 
OK, finally got some picks of my fab work, it's attached. She needs a shave but works a treat! Works equally well in the cold or when your fingers are sweaty. I call it the "Chia Stick"...

You can see the stuff I've used. It's from a sheet of small felt self adhesive pads. The adhesive is VERY strong so no worries there. Once I put it on I just cut it to shape with a small pair of scissors. Yes, it's hairy. I can't stop rubbing it...
 
What about that rubberized plastic grippy stuff that is used to coat tool handles?

Buy a spare joystick cap, dip/coat it, and put it on...

What holds that little cap on the joystick? Does it just snap on (kind of hinted at in the joystick broken thread)?

Noooo....I'm not going to be a guinea pig until I have to.

If you enjoy slippin the joystick around and enjoyin your phone treating your like arsee then lol ok, dont do it
