slipped on ice

I have an L5 S1fusion that is about 6 years old. Yesterday I slipped on the ice that's on the steps going down from my front porch. I landed on my right hip. I have a lot of pain, can hardly bend over or down, and any movement - walking, sitting down, arising, etc., is very painful.

Any ideas?

I had a fusion 3 years ago, and one of the warnings I was given was to watch where I was going. Especially to try to prevent any actions that may cause me to fall and land me on my butt or either side of my hips. Like man, that's a lot to watch out for! Falling down is an accident, and accident prevention is just a lot of wishful thinking. Well, maybe not? You live in a climate where things get iced up. Perhaps some kind of "something" that you can wear over your shoes might be a good thing. Like a cleat. Also, chairs that have wheels on them. Like the one I'm sitting on now. They are a real menace. The chair in my office almost got me the other day. It slipped right out from under me. Luckily I was able to grab the side of my desk and avoided falling on exactly where I was specifically warned to be careful of.

Anyway, you sound as if you've injured yourself. At least an X-ray is the order of the day. It will assure you that your fusion is still patent. This is important, because delay may increase the possibility of more complicated problems.Get going on this, and for God's sake be careful.

Actually, I DON'T live in an area where there is usually ice - - that's the problem! I live in NE Texas and it happens maybe once or twice a year. Anyway, I have some of those things like cleats that you put on your shoes, but I wasn't thinking/being careful or anything that day! Didn't dream the steps were iced.

Anyway, this is a couple of days later and I'm much better, so I guess I just got a good bruise. Or a bad bruise. Will try to be more careful.

Also, since the fusion, and you may have experienced this, my balance is not the same. That's a problem, too.
