Not sure if this is the right forum, but here goes.

A little over a month ago I slipped and fell on some ice, landing on my rear end. As expected, it was sore for a day or two then all was fine.

About a week later it started hurting again, and it's been hurting on and off for 3-4 weeks now. It mainly only hurts after I've been sitting for awhile.

The pain is right about where my wallet rides in my back pocket. It's such an annoying pain, I've started carrying my wallet on my left side instead.

Should I bother with the doctors? I just don't see what they could possibly say or do about it.

Thanks!

if you are in lots of pain...and its getting worse instead of better..then id say its time to see a dr. an x-ray is a good start to make sure that the bones are ok....HOWEVER, if thats clear..and if you messed up a disc...it will not show it on an x-ray...only an MRI will show nerve/disc problems.

Try some over the counter anti-inflammatory's for awhile to see if that helps. Some muscles/tendons take a very long time to heal and as long as your pain isn't coming from your spinal column then no problem ...well except for annoying pain. and of course don't sit for a long period of time without getting up and moving around.

I fainted on Feb. 1 (worse than falling because I wasn't able to try and break the fall), but was suffering from the flu and didn't really notice any major pain for about 1.5 weeks. By 3 weeks, I was in daily, terrible pain even with pain meRAB, and went to see my operating neurosurgeon. He took xrays and thankfully confirmed I did not disturb my fusion.

He thinks I have an acute muscle injury and should heal in 2 to 3 more weeks. HOWEVER, if I continue in pain (and my pain IS getting worse and worse), I am to go back and he will run a bone scan to see if I cracked my sacrum or any other bony injury. Considering my pain is increasing, I probably will be going for that.

I would definitely check with a doctor. I had tried living on anti-inflammatories for 2 weeks and nothing improved. I don't know why as time goes on the pain tenRAB to get worse rather than better. If I were you, I would rather be safe than sorry.

Hope you find out good news and feel better soon!

Thanks for the replies!

cherir,

Really that long to heal? That makes me second guess thinking it is a muscle injury. I don't know how to describe it, but doesn't feel like it's deep enough to be bone. It's also a very dull pain, not sharp or throbbing like a toothache.

Advil (I remeraber my dentist telling me it's the best OTC anti-inflammatory) takes the edge off pretty well on days it bothers me.

I think I'll call the doctor in the morning to get an opinion. Every time I've gone thinking I needed x-rays, it turns out to be a wasted trip though.

Yes, my neurosurgeon told me that an acute muscle injury can take 4 to 6 weeks to heal, and I read online that it can even take up to 8 weeks.
