Sleight of Land -- Giant Supermarket

Some time ago I boasted about a new Giant (PA) supermarket taking over a
corner fabric store.

After the wholesale shopping binge, on the way home I passed it by. It was
totally in a different place, about 100 yards away.

Stupid thing about it is, there no sign facing the roads in any direction..
It looks like a red brick prison. I'll take a picture when I get a standing
(not driving) chance.

Nor can any grocery store with that or a similar name be found on the
website. Which would also explain why there's no sign for it out
front, and the fact that it doesn't look like a grocery store.

DT's can cause dangerous hallucinations and other problems, Andy. I'd
get that checked out.

Some JoAnn's are huge. But not all are.

the business and spent a lot of time inside a very large Giant Eagle store,
somewhere in PA. Very interesting show, though quite a large download.

in Pittsburgh call it Giant Eagle. The way Andy refers to it I assume
he's referring to a different company (or that he's just a moron).
But yes, many of the Giant Eagles are pretty big. But I remember when

ObUsenet: Somebody stole 10 gigs from my account over the last 24
hours. I still don't believe the account was hacked - I think their
computer screwed up.

Any other Blocknews.net customers missing bandwidth? Mine was
completely drained. It was supposed to last me another 13 years. I
certainly won't be giving them any more money since they can't prove
somebody else used it (they don't keep login records). Oh well, I
kinda liked them. Now I'm shopping for another provider again (and
no, I don't need any suggestions).

100%.

Giant is a lot better than Acme. Acme rapes the customer regularly, because
they can, as they tend to be situated in locations where customers have to
walk or have no other choice but to drive farther away. Giant actually tries
to give the customer a good price, because they have to compete. Acme
markets only succeed where there is no other competition.

It's "Giant of PA." As far as I know, it's a very Pennsylvania
supermarket. I'll shop there next chance I get. The one I shop at,
rarely is a tad out of my world-wide 5 mile radius. ;)

They tried the "scan-as-you-shop" bar-code devices. You basically bagged
as you shopped and paid on the way out. Pretty 22nd century tech, imho.
I think they did away with the system, being too difficult to monitor?

I'm in complete agreement.

Giant (of PA) has more aisles than the ACME and better prices.

The Giant's only flaw, imho, is the floors are so rock solid that I'm
pained to shop the place. The ACME flooring has some cushion in it.

The Giant supermarkets seem to also flaw in situating the stores in
remote, hard to enter/park at, real estate.

Final word on this: They had an accounting bug. The account was not
hacked, but certain actions caused the account to be depleted. I was
the first of a few users who experienced the problem which caused them
to take a closer look at the problem. My account was not hacked and
they replaced the bandwidth.
