Sleeping in a swing, how to end it?

My guy is almost 6 months old. For the first or two month he slept in his bassinet. Then we tried to get him into his crib.
This didn't work, the second you laid him down he screamed!!!
He was spitting up a fair amount as well.
So he has peacefully been sleeping in a small travel swing since then....we have a full sized one, but he refuses to sleep in that.
I recently tried him on his tummy but he still woke screaming.
The swing has been in the living room and we have been sharing sleeping on the couch.
I was sure it was his room he was afraid of and thought I would try putting the swing in the crib for nap times.
Low and behold he sleeps like a champ, and when he wakes just chatters to himself.
Last night he spend 12 hours straight.
Now that I know it sn't the room, its clearly the position, what else can I do to get my Little guy sleeping properly? No to the Ferber method.

First, babies do have preferences and do go through funny phases. My oldest son would not sleep anywhere but his car seat for almost 3 months. So, he slept in his car seat on the floor beside my bed for three months. Every night I would take him to his crib, lay him down, wait for the scream and then move him to the car seat.
Every night it got a little longer before he would cry. Then I would sit him in the crib and do little jobs in his room while he was awake (like fold laundry or whatever) so he got used to being in the crib too. And as suddenly as it started, it stopped. He just went to sleep in the crib one night and never needed the car seat again.

It won't last forever.... maybe put the swing beside your own bed so you can sleep well too.
