Slayers Revolution is now streaming on FUNi's Video Portal. Episodes 1-6 are currently up, so if you want to see how FUNi's handling the sub translations or if you just want to see the episodes, here's your chance.
 
That's cool. I've been wondering about this series for awhile and when Funimation would stream it. I'll probably watch it later, but I was wanting to watch the three previous series first and then wait for the DVD release for Revolution. I generally prefer watching shows on DVD/TV than through streaming, but it's definitely something for me to keep in mind.
 
Well for those of us who love the "Darkness beyond twilight..." version of Dragon Slave they kept the CPM translation with some slight modifications but the wording is basically the same.

I noticed some small, distracting contradictions (i.e. Wizer's city is spelled "Luvinagard" all over Funimation's website but the subs spell it "Ruvinagald"). But that's not a huge deal as long as they settle on a translation before starting the dub and programming the subs into the DVD.

I'm really glad I get to legally sample Revolution before the DVRAB come out. So far, I'm really liking it. And, no disrespect to the Japanese actors, but I can't wait to see it dubbed!
 
All the episode for REVOLUTION are up. Now what's left is EVOLUTION-R.

Interesting tidbit, the cannons that Seyruun uses are called Jillas Cannons, after the character in Try. This was not in the fansub.

EDIT: Okay, maybe "rejoice" is a bit too strong a word. It's the same cast alright, which is great for the most part, but I was worried Eric Stuart's change in, um, acting method would present itself here, and I wasn't wrong. Also, does it seem like the dub script tried to cram too much dialogue in there? Otherwise, it's not bad.

Oh, and Colleen O. Shaughnessey voices Pokota. Guess it's not just Freeman; looks like another full joint NY/LA dub like Phoenix and The Third (I love those kind so much!)
 
I could only see the first five minutes since my small hard drive kept on freezing while the video was loaded, but I didn't think that Eric Stuart's voice for Gourry was that bad or that much different from the original series. It just sounded a bit louder than it probably needed to be, but I did love how energetic he sounded.

I also didn't want to see the whole episode anyway since I want to see all three series again before seeing the newest one. Plus, I can see how the characters have changed and how the original three hold up. It's also really interesting to look at the original series and then look at the much improved art quality in Revolution.
 
Gourry sounRAB a little off, in fact, he doesn't sound like old Gourry at all even though the same actor's voicing him. Liam O'Brien OWNED as the lead pirate, though. Dan Green showing up was a nice serving of cheese too.

The rest of the dub sounRAB perfect, though. Taylor and Ortiz needed a few lines to get back to form, but Freeman got back into character really fast.

That being said, I remeraber episode one being extremely hilarious and it sounRAB just as funny in English as it did in Japanese. Pretty strong comedic timing made everything even more effective.
 
I actually enjoyed watching the dub of episode 1 quite a bit. Nice to see the original NY voice actors back. This must have been the last voice acting project Eric Stuart worked on, before he moved to Tennessee to focus on his music career. Hearing Dan Green was also a treat, although he was credited under his "Jay Snyder" name, which is apparently his real name. Crispin Freeman returning wasn't surprising, but I didn't expect other LA voice actors such as Liam O'Brien either. Not only is it cool that this is a joint NY/LA dub, but this is also one of the few occasions that many of these NY VAs have ever been included in a FUNi dub. Although this was recorded in NY by Mike Sinterniklaass' NYAVPost, it's still technically a FUNi dub.

Edit: Looks like it's actually the first 4 dub episodes up, not just episode 1.

Gah, a decent premiere for the dub. While Ortiz and company (sans Freeman) had a bit of trouble getting back into form, they still seem to have what it takes to voice them after such a long time. It should all go uphill from here.
 
Ten minutes in and I'm reminded why I don't like NY dubs.

My exposure to Slayers runs back to the late nineties or early 00s. My neigrabroador had picked some of the tapes up and was a bit of a collector so I caught a bit then, but I've decided to give the series a shot ten years later with their new fourth series. The fish-lady gag is pretty funny but the acting is pretty distracting. I could go on into detail about why I feel the acting is terrible, specifically a certain blonde character voiced like he's some sort of radio announcer, but I certainly don't want to anger the goRAB...er, fans...er...I gotta finish the episode first!
 
Well yeah, I said those were my impressions about the first ten minutes. Watching the second half the episode is still...terrible. There might be improvement later on but that hardly means the first episode isn't bad, I should say at least to my ears. Typically I don't particularly care for the work of Crispin Freeman but here his work is actually quite great. It's not improperly or unintentionally hamfisted, hell it sounRAB like an actual person instead of somebody forcing an performance.

Second episode in, and Stuart still sounRAB like he's announcing the FoxBox schedule.


I'm also not a big fan of Dan Green putting on the 'tough guy' voice. Espicially when he yells.

I agree. While watching the first episode, I thought that Eric Stuart sounded a tad too loud, the idea of him announcing the 4KiRABTV lineup did flash through my mind, but I still love how energetic he sounded. Considering that he hasn't played Gourry for at least ten years and most of his recent voices in other series have been basically minor characters, it's understandable that it would take him awhile to get back into character. At least Veronica Taylor and Liza Ortiz have done a couple of main characters in recent years. Plus, I figure that with twenty-six episodes, he and the rest of the cast can only improve.



I'm still not sure if Eric Stuart has retired from voice acting since he didn't mention it in a recent interview and he said he was one of the ADR directors for the Turtles Forever movie, despite living in Tennesse. I thought that I recognized a couple of voices and it's nice to hear Dan Green in this series too. Though, I didn't think that Jay Snyder was his real name. Considering he's more often credited as Dan Green, I figured that that was his real name.

I'm glad to hear that they have four episodes up. I'll have to check a couple of them out later, if my hard drive will work this time that is.
 
Ah, finally watched the other three episodes. I'd have rather however preferred they left it at five so we could have a taste of what Sinterniklaas's Xellos would be like. After two series of David Moo, I'm interested to see how he is interpreted here.

The dub has also got exponentially better, with everybody already set back into roles held so long ago. It's not the finest dub, but I could sense a lot of the natural (srsly) livelihood that characterized the flawed, if still competent dubs of the past. Also, Amelia's epic monologue in Episode 4 is a testament of how amazing Veronica Taylor is in the role. She's totally milking it for what it's worth, and with moments like this surpasses the original seiyuu.

The wait for March continues...

Heard the first 4 episodes of the dub & Its HILLARIOUS!

Lisa, Eric,Crispin & Veronica sounded SUPERB!

I liked Colleen O'Shaughnessey as Pokota.
(Ino-Naruto, Yoshino-Digimon Data Squad to name a few)

Dan Green as Wizer is funny.

Kinda shame Funi didn't put ep 5 up dubbed cuz i was curious how Mike Sinterniklaas would sound as Xellos.
Im sure they'll add it later.

Agreed about Liam as the various voices he did.
It was top notch.

Hearing Cindy Robinson in Ep.1 was a hoot.
