Slayers/Next/Try/Evolution/R Talkback

I've been watching A LOT of slayers lately, (because its so garsh darn awesome!) and I dont see any talkbacks for the 5 part series of Slayers, so, I have decided to make a talkback to discuss it!

~ Slayers:Talkback ~

Slayers is a series written by Hajime Kanzaka and illustrated by Rui Araizumi. It was later developed into several manga titles, five televised anime series, two three-episode original video animations (OVAs), and five movies. It also spanned three console role-playing games for the Sony Playstation, as well as one for the Nintendo Super Famicom (known internationally as the Super Nintendo Entertainment System). Slayers is a Dungeons & Dragons inspired narrative that follows the adventures of the young sorceress Lina Inverse and her companions as they journey through their world. Using powerful magic and sworRABmanship they battle overreaching wizarRAB, demons seeking to destroy the world, dark lorRAB, and the occasional hapless gang of bandits.

The reason I personally love this show is because of the great characters in this show, the plot sometimes tenRAB to get off track sometimes, but for the most part is very consistant and can be remarked as one of the most classic animes of all time, this show was one of the first to introduce myself to anime in general. Discuss Away!

I love these series as well. I've only seen Slayers and Slayers NEXT completely. I'm watching Slayers TRY now and I'm on episode 19. Despite the negative reviews I've seen and read for it, TRY really doesn't seem that bad. I was annoyed with Fellia for some of the earlier episodes and I did think that a couple of episodes after they were seperated were a bit too weak, but they were also pretty funny. I'll probably be done with the series sometime this week or early next week.

Anyway, so far, I think NEXT is my favorite series since I loved how intense the storyline was and how the characters interacted with each other, especially with the introduction of Xellos. I also loved how the finale turned out with Lina and Gourry. Though, I'll probably rewatch all three series at some point to see if I like some aspects of each series differently.

I haven't seen Evolution or R since I'm waiting for the dub to come out. I'm crossing my fingers that FUNimation will some how get the original cast to come back for their roles. I'm pretty sure that it's possible for them to do it and it would be polite of FUNimation to at least ask them if they want to do it. By having the original cast back, that would make me one seriously happy Slayers fan.

Im also watching Try at the moment, and I think the series is pretty good, but Fillia can get really annoying at times, and personally, I believe the series would be better if she wasnt in it.

Right now im on episode (10) of the try series, and I think try is the second best series, my favorite was next..and the first series was the weakest.

I really do hope they can some of the original cast to dub evolution, it would really be awesome.

I kind of feel the same way about Fillia. I was pretty annoyed with her right up until either they finally got to the Temple of the Golden Dragon or when they left. With the episodes I've been watching since then, she's been pretty fine with me. I still love how she reacts to Xellos since that can be really funny. I'll watch another episode or two of TRY tomorrow and see how it goes for me.

I really love the Slayers series however it's extremely hard for me to find the DVD collections because the video stores don't have them or I'm short on cash...I really wish that Cartoon Network (Or another channel that I have on my tv that airs anime) was able to air the series.

I have been a Slayers fan since 1998 or so, and it is my all time favorite anime.

I just finished watching the last episode of Revolution-R and I loved it.

I am also really digging the new animation style for Revolution and Evo-R.

I hope they make another new season! Rev/Evo-R have been gold, and it is so nice to see the original VA's back.

There are anime dvd sites you can purchase the complete collection for, rightstuf is selling the first 3 seasons on dvd for 18$ for each season.

You can get the whole series for about 54$, its definatly worth it.

I just finished watching TRY today and I totally loved it. I won't spoil the ending for anyone who hasn't seen it, but I will say that Filla is much, much better and more awesome than I ever thought she could be at the beginning of the series. I also had some happy tears coming at the end.

I'm still kind of surprised with the negative reviews I've heard of it though. I think that NEXT is still the best of the three series I've seen, but TRY is in a nice second spot. I agree that some of the early episodes could have been a bit better, but I thought that most of, if not all of, the second half of the series more than made up for that.

One thing that I'll probably do is watch all three series in order before the next one comes out on DVD next year, depending on when they release it of course. After seeing the conclusion of TRY, I'm hoping even more now that FUNimation will get the original cast back. That would make them even more awesome to me.

I completly agree with you lucario, Try's ending was really good, but still, Next as a whole was better for me, and Filia does get less annoying, but she still is pretty annoying as a character in general, Idk, maybe its just my taste in anime characters...

The real redeemer in the whole Try series was the part where
Lina and the gang get seperated, around there is where the series started to feel more like the slayers I knew and loved

I agree with you about NEXT. I still think that series had the best storyline, action in the battles and character interactions from what I've seen in the Slayers series. I think that TRY still does a nice second job at some of those aspects though. I respect how you feel about Filia, but I stopped being annoyed with her at the end of the first half of the series. I really didn't have a problem with her by the ending and I was pretty happy that she and pretty much all of the characters introduced in TRY had some kind of happy conclusion.

Oh yeah. I thought that those episodes were hilarious. The one with the Fishpeople kind of felt a bit weak to me for some reason, but the unique twist to the ending made it more interesting.

The whole fishpeople story idea seemed very..rushed for some reason, like it was just there for the sake of just being there lol.

I can see that. I would have preferred something else to happen in that episode other than that story since it really did feel like it was just to be there. At least the episode after that had much better humor and was more interesting.

Cool to see some major Slayers fans which I always loved Slayersalong with Urusei Yatsura which both Slayers:Next/Try/Evolution-R/Revolution are my most favorites along with Slayers:Excellent/Book of Spells the specials that I have were the best which I always loved the comedy/action scenes and Lina,Gourry,Amelia,Zelgadis,Filia(Dragon Girl),Syphiel,Xellos,& Naga were my most favorite characters which I loved their chemistry/adventures together especially with Lina's abuse on poor Gourry, the funny Filia/Xellos chemistry & Amelia's cool justice antics like Maromaru's from Blue Dragon, hahahahahaha. The Lina/Naga rivalries were entertaining along with Naga's frightening laugh, hahahahahahaha,& I love all the movies which Slayers the Motion Picture/Premium are my most favorites.

I've always loved the cool villains who're Rezo,Valgaav,Eris,Martina,Hallusiform,The Shampoo Sisters,Phibrizzo,Sirene,& Marty who're interesting/awesome,but Vengeance-Seeking Martina later on turns good in the Phibrizzo battle which that Phibrizzo was one evil, scary, psycho brat & has a crush on Zangulus who's an awesome character/Gourry's rival & Eris's death was pretty sad though along with her sad past from that dreadful Copy Rezo which I'm glad Lina killed him at the end.

I loved the monsters in the series that were interesting/awesome like Dilgear the werewolf troll(I'm a wolfman fan),Noonsa the silly fish-man(I love his design),Shabranidgo the giant Mazoku demon lord,Kanzel & Mazenda the Mazoku pair,Rahanimu the 2nd silly fish-man,Jillas the red fox & Gravos(Valgaav's goons who later turn good),Gaav,Aulmace,& Joylock from the Motion Picture Movie & which both Jillas,Kitsune the Fox from Urusei Yatsura,& Renamon from Digimon Tamers are my most favorite fox characters.

I always loved that scene with the cute,adorable,mini-sized chibi Linas & Gourries which that scene was SO CUTE!!!!!!
FUNimation licensing Slayers is so awesome next to my old favorites:Dragonball/Z/GT,Tenchi Muyo!,YuYu Hakusho,& One Piece,so cool!!!!

I know the jist of what happens in Revolution and Evolution-R through reviews and stuff. From what I've heard about it, it seems pretty good (albeit with a bit of a rushed ending and one or two odd plotholes). Though I think its kinda silly that...
...Rezo got brought back a third time.
Seriously, is he the Jean Grey of Slayers or something?

I really hope Funimation can get the old TV cast (or at least just the main 5 actors) to reprise their roles. I honestly don't know if I'll be willing to spend money on the Revolution/Evolution-R DVRAB if I have to watch them subbed. No offence meant to the Japanese actors, but it just wouldn't feel like Slayers without Ortiz, Stuart, Taylor, Freeman, and, yes, even David Moo.

Wait, your serious? Omg..wont he ever go away lol?

I personally wouldnt mind them using some new voices, but they must bring back lisa ortiz and eric stuart..they MAKE the dub of slayers, crispan freeman would be nice too, But I doubt they could get him to do it.

Well, Crispin Freeman did demand to reprise Zelgaldis for that Slayers OVA a while back. Since Revolution-R portrays flasrabroadacks of human Zel, Freeman might want to do it again.

I definitely agree with you. After watching the first three series, I can't imagine any other people playing Lina, Gourry, Amelia, Zel or Xellos other than Liza Ortiz, Eric Stuart, Veronica Taylor and Crispan Freeman. I also feel like they work really well with each other after doing the first three series.

I defintely hope that FUNimation could get all five of them to reprise their roles. I'm pretty sure that they won't have a problem with getting Crispan Freeman since he was able to be in the OVAs when the other original cast merabers were too busy with their other roles at the time. Even though David Moo did a really great job with Xellos' voice, I wouldn't mind too much if he wasn't able to do his role. As long as they get the other four voice actors from the main cast, I wouldn't be too bothered with not having David Moo's Xellos voice.

I wonder when FUNimation will announce their castings though. I know that they aren't planning a DVD release until next year, but I am getting really curious about it.

I hate slayer so much! (Sarcasm by pointing to my user name). This is my
favorite anime of all! I did not finish the series though. I would have to restart
the entire series if I decided to watch it again, although I would actualy have
to buy the episodes or watch them online and not mooch of random people
who have episodes like I did before.
