Skype is always "pending" during chat?

whenever I try to send any of my contacts a message it always just says "pending" next to the message and it never gets sent. It wont let me video chat or call anyone and a "Misc. Error" pops up when i try. I have the most up to date version of Skype and all of my contacts show up online. I have talked to my contacts on phone and they say they are unable to send me messages, but they are able to with other friends. I even tried to Skype myself using my roommate's computer and tried skyping my roommate's computer and it still didn't work
