Skype crashes my comp?

I type my username and pass in and when click log in the loading "circle" swirls and then it stops and my whole computer doesn't respond, i left it for 25 minutes and there was still no change, The screen is completely frozen, its so bad i have to take out the battery and take the power cable out (bad i know), Ive searched on the Skype website but found nothing that helped. I am using Windows 7 Operating system (i am using a laptop by the way) any help would be greatly apprciated and ive tried all the obvious like re-installing
