Sit down, Shut up to air remaining 9 episodes

It's because Fox really can't cancel The Simpsons, that show made the Fox Network what it is, and they can't say no to Seth, because they have cancelled Family Guy TWICE now, and on both occasions were proven very wrong. It makes sense, since The Simpsons only averages 5-6 million viewers for each new episode, a fraction of the ratings they got even 5 years ago, not to metion the ratings in the 90's. And American Dad probably should have been cancelled a couple of years ago, it consistently gets the worst ratings for the night, but it's not, it's actually contracted to go through 2012, and will probably get renewed. Even The Cleveland Show, which has not aired a single episode, has already been renewed for a second season.
 
Fox is stupid, and I agree that they are giving MacFarlane too much freedom. Seriously, after King of the Hill ends, there's going to be THREE shows by Seth. I feel bad for those who pitched an animated show to Fox, and to the makers of this show, to have to endure their stupidity.

At least we'll see the show, but I wish it wasn't cut short. I'm really hating the fact that so many good shows are getting the axe (It also seems The Goode Family might have an unfortunate short run as well).

TV is getting less and less interesting these days.
 
Fox can live without The Simpsons. The show needs to wrap it up, it's been repeating itself for a while now, and the writing is very inconsistent. Besides, shows like Married With Children and Martin were some of Fox's biggest hits. Did the network survived when they ended? Yes. I'm pretty sure Fox has trillions of dollars from The Simpsons now, so they should be set. Besides, how much money are they getting considering the massive decline in ratings?
 
Married with Children and Martin never had the merchandising revenue The Simpsons has. The fact it is animated has helped it continue through all these years because noone in the cast can really age. I assume it's never going to end, until one of the cast members dies.
 
Yes, but The Simpsons is the only reason Fox was taken seriously. It's true that Married With Children and Cops were big shows for Fox by the time The Simpsons came on(Martin came after The Simpsons BTW), but no one expected Fox to last, even with those shows. Fox proceeded to use The Simpsons as it's bargaining chip for two essential things that would seal it's existance; it managed to get huge deals with sports, i.e. the NFL and NASCAR, and the shakeup of affialation which allowed Fox to "steal" away major affialates that had previously been strong CBS or NBC affialates. The Simpsons was Fox's biggest show and their flagship show throughout the 90's, and probably up until the advent of American Idol. Chances are when The Simpsons does end, it will be Matt Groening's or James L. Brooks' decision, not the Fox Network's.

EDIT: The Simpsons was also the first show for Fox that entered the Neilson Top 30 highest rated shows for a season.
 
Yeah, but now that Fox has become reconized, it does not need the simpsons anymore. Thet have other shows, just as popular, that can help them in ratings now.
 
Despite what its creators may say, I'm pretty sure Fox has already canceled Sit Down, Shut Up. You know, due to the spell check on my new browser I just discovered that I've been spelling canceled wrong my whole life.



But, the decline doesn't mean that much when you consider that network TV as a whole has declined rapidly in the past few years. I mean, look at Fox's competition. Desperate Housewives used to get about 30 million viewers. Currently, it's only getting about 3 million viewers. Of course, it's summer so they're showing reruns now. But still, that's quite a fall.
