Thank you all for your answers. I am nervous because I am so allergic to so many things these days. Recently peanuts, pine nuts, and of course the typical ragweed, etc. It seems that i get itchy so quickly from things that never bothered me before and a few medicines give me rashes and itchiness too. If it only stayed in the system 4-6 hours, I would wouldn't mind so much. I will try the other inhaler a few days and see if it helps, if not, then, yes, I will try Singulair. Of course if it's really bad, I will do it sooner. I will not allow myself to not breathe.thanks so much for the help.

I too have been taking this for years, along with the rest of my preventative medication. I agree that it is best taken in the evening and will help with symptoms due to allergy. On its own, I don't think I would notice any difference to be honest. I've never had any problems with side effects.

Hope you are finding it helpful.

I was given singulair to take once a day for two weeks. I just read the possible side effects and now am going to wait to see if my inhalers work first. It sounRAB like a scary drug. anyone else here use it?

I agree that it works best when taking in the evening, especially if you have nocturnal asthma. If you take it too late, you might wake up at night. I take it at 6pm. I haven't had side-effects, except that I seem to get weird dreams...not exactly nightmares, since taking it.

Harry, If you you not mind me asking, what is the lung function test? I am schedule to have a methacholine challenge to see if I really have asthma since I am not responding to meRAB. I was first diagnoised a bout 2 months ago with asthma, now he does't think so. Thank you for any info

Hi,
It was a long time ago when I was on it, one tablet a day. I had horrible, horrible nightmares, that when you wake up you don't even feel good for part of the day. I had never had nightmares before. They were unsettling to my day. Each person is so different.

That is one of the side effects that first popped into my head when I read this.

I hope you are breathing well.

Thank you. I will take it if need be. I didn't even feel the need to use the inhaler today. It's been raining hard for a few days, so maybe the allergens arent' here today. I will, of course, take it if needed and yes, if the inhaler doesn't work, I will take the singulair too. I know that I need to breathe and really want just to feel good.

Hi Barbara,
Sorry you are having problems.

A Lung Function Test ( also commonly named a Pulumonary Function Test) is a test that test the function of your breathing-- from the amount(quantity) of air you intake and exhale, the rate you intake and exhale.

My wife's test was done at a Hospital-- in a sealed air-tight charaber. It took close to an hour to complete.
Alot of information is determine and results are printed out and evaluated by a Qualified Doctor -- and he will tell you everything you need to know about your breathing capacities.
As you may know--- the test does not tell you about your responce to any medication or allergies problems.

I wish you well---Harry

I was on it for 2 months...no side effects and no effects at all...so we quit it. It just didn't do anything for me. However, I know a lot of people who swear by it...and I'm thrilled it works for them.

My wife took Singulair for about 3 years and developed a rash on her leg that would come and go -- not present all the time but mostly in the summer/ hot weather. The Respro -doctor finally changed her medication to Spriva-- I was very uneasy about using this very powerful COPD drug w/o any signs of COPD-- she was never tested for Asthma by the original doctor-- she had bouts of bronchitis.

About a month later our PC doctor did a Lung Function test and found that she did not have asthma after 10 years of treatment--- She just needed a Rescue Inhaler. My wife has only used it 2 times in the last 5 years.

I encourage anyone to make sure they have Asthma prior to being treated.

Harry

hi Barbara

As Harry says, lung function tests will assess how well you are breathing, sometimes they are called spirometry. I get mine done when I am having my hospital check up. They have a sealed booth I have to sit in and breathe in and out of tubing with noseclips on. There are various tests, some where you breathe normally, others when you have to expel as much air as you can as quickly as possible, and such like.
If the challenge shows that you do have asthma, I would imagine that you will get these tests done as the next step.
Usually, the consultant gives me the result as a percentage of my expected lung function. This accounts for gender, age, height, weight etc and the fact that I am asthmatic.
Hope this helps, good luck x

I've been on it for years with absolutely no side effects. If you are taking it for asthma, the best time to take it is in the evenings. By itself, it doesn't do much for my asthma, but in corabination with my other preventative medication it really has helped me keep better control of my asthma. It'll help a bit if you have allergies as well.

I took it for 8 years with no side effects at all (I only stopped taking it because my doctor changed me to a similar medication that works slightly differently).
