I study i.t.f taekwondo -And hold a 2nd degree. In taekwondo we Use the sine wave in lots of techniques To generate power -An up down movement -With a lot of emphasis on knee spring and dropping into the for example punch and it is very effective-My question is do any other martial arts use a sine wave ? Im not quite sure :)

I am familiar with the concept. I was taught it many years ago. It has both benefits and drawbacks. For one it telegraphs the move. That is the main reason why it is not used in many styles. The gain in power is not worth telling the opponent that you are attacking. That being said effective techniques do not necessarily need that extra power. Even light techniques can have a devastating effect if done correctly. I regularly stun (nearly a KO) my students with only light strikes. It is more in where and how you strike than in ho hard. If the, as you call it, wave works for you great. Just be sure that you understand the drawbacks.

Best of Luck!

EDIT:
The wave is not really up-rooting as was mentioned by Jas. That used to cause the attacker to lose his balance by rising up. Another disadvantage of the wave is that while you rise at the beginning, the opponent can take your balance more easily if he simple attacks at that point. Of course he would need to be close enough to do so.

In Tai Chi Chuan it is not called "the sine wave"...
MOF: It's more of a "U" motion than an "S" motion.
It all has to do with controlled breathing.

It is called "using the brain in your big toe."
This is a rooting technique.

Tai Chi Chuan uses several "brains" located in different parts of your body in order to teach applications.

a lot of good martial arts instructors will teach this method. this sine wave as you call it is called rooting and unrooting in internal martial arts and it is the basis for most of the techniques. in internal MA, we like to stay rooted all the time though and keep dropping the weight to generate power. (coming up so that we don't go so low, but not as a power source so often) when you go up it's easier for the other people to unroot you. (just a shove from another direction and you fall while you are lifting up.)
