Since California is in such bad financial shape, why don't they tax the churches?

Churches make good profits, why shouldn't they be taxed?
If the whole nation does it, where are the churches going to hide? Besides, they don't truly help many needy outside of their own congregation!
Since when aren't churches profitable. Drive around in the city and look at the billion dollar churches with elaborate decorations!
 
Because they would put the non-profit churches out of business, which would mean the state would have to provide the millions of dollars in services that the churches provide for free.

they should its.... a business just like everything else ....
 
so, none of you people mind the breaking of our constitution? Seeing as how many people can get away with "bending" it, should we really just change the rules entirely?

All the churches would leave the state right behind all the business who don't like the highest taxes in the country.

(Some people just don't get it. When you RAISE the price of a product, it becomes less popular. In this case, California has states right on it's border that have much, much lower taxes. That's why people are leaving. That's why the state is losing it's tax base. That's why it's going bankrupt. Hey! What about LOWERING taxes to attract businesses? Ever thought of that?)
 
Churches are closing all over due to shortage of finances because people are not going to church like they use to, due to shortage of priests, due to shortage of community support. Economics hits the churches as well and they aren't profitable.
 
it may have to come down to that....i hear that they are seriously thinking about legalizing pot
 
CA pays some of the highest taxes in the country and your solution is to tax even more????

I will never fully understand the liberal mindset!

Dems and their overtaxing and spending got CA in this mess. Yeah, lets just pour more taxes on top of everything. Great idea!

And when the charities the churches run no longer function, dont worry, the legislature will pass more taxes so that the gvt will pay for it all!

Hmmmm I guess gvt has unlimited funds, our tax money!
