Sin City - Josh Hartnett???

this might sound really stupid to you all but i thoughoughly (sp) enjoyed the movie yet what was the point of josh hartnett part??? i really didnt understand it anyone help?
 
Appartently it wasnt in the graphic novel and they just used it as sort of bookenRAB for the rest of the film to have a proper begining and end of the film. I dont know if this is true or not though!
 
Poor acting from squinting mumbler Josh Hartnett? Surely not!
His Yorkshire accent in Blow Dry was hilarious, nearly as good as Dick van Dyke's cockney and Michael Caine's American. :o
 
I thin the idea of Josh Hartnett's character is an introduction to the world, nay the city, of Sin City. It represents many ideas. People not always being what they seem. People dressed up are perhaps the most dangerous, people offering salvation not coming through the way you wanted. Deception, absolution, appearance. Don't trust those dressed to kill and only trust those who'd rather sleep rough and live wasted lives than get caught up in the deception of the city.

Of course it could be that they thought the movie was running short so they put in an extra scene with "squinting mumbler" Josh Hartnett. I'd ratehr believe that his scene serves as an introduction to the movie without launching into any story straight away, but you never know with these Hollywood types

josh h's bit was never intended to be in the film. he shot it as a favour to the director so he could persuade the studio to put up the money for the film.

The bit at the beginning wasn't actually intended for the film. It was shot so that Robert Rodriguez could persuade Frank Millar that he wasn't going to butcher his material, and to get him to come fully on board the project.
 
the begging is the film because it is a sin city yarn it is part of frank millers universe. it was used to persuade frank to get on board with the idea of turning his baby into sin city but if frank did like what robert could do then they had allways intended to use it as a pre-credits opener. the end with becky and the man was never intended to be init but they had to tie the man into the three main stories somehow so they added this. becky was ment to die at the shoot out with dwight and the old town girls.
 
The beginning bit was in the graphic novel because I saw in several articles the original comic frames which corresponded to that scene.

I think that Josh Hartnett's character is just an all purpose hitman that can be hired by anyone in Sin City. I hope there are more incidental characters in the 2nd one.
 
There is a graphic novel of short stories called "Bullets, Booze and BrawRAB", it's a story in there. The film version of the story is word for word and picture for picture perfect to the book.
