Simpsons Season 1

I'm not sure about the worst,but I've always liked "Life on the Fast Lane"....{the one where Marge considers having an affair with her bowling instructor,due to Homer's insensitivity/selfishness,but reconciders after realizing how much Homer loves her,despite his shortcomings....}

I like to say that my father's favorite episode was the episode when it first aired on Super Bowl Sunday 1990 and my favorite episode was the episode when it first aired on Easter 1990. They're "There's No Disgrace Like Home" and "The Crepes Of Wrath".

When my father first watched his first and favorite episode, There's No Disgrace Like Home, he and his friends were watching the Super Bowl Sunday. The part with the electric chairs made my father and his friends laughed out loud.

My favorite episode, The Crepes Of Wrath, was when Bart Simpson goes to France due to what he did in school, he flushed a cherry bomb down a toilet. When I first saw this episode on youtube.com titled "Bart Simpson Goes To France", I thought that Bart would do some pranks on the French citizens, but I was wrong.

He was forced to do child labor for some crooks. Like what George Meyer (one of the writers of this episode) stated in the episode commentary, "The way he's rendered really tug at your heartstrings" and he was right. It really hurts me in the inside. When Bart was forced trudge barefoot in the rain to get the anti-freeze, he gave up and shivered under an awning like a baby (For a 30-year-old, Nancy can shiver like a baby); That part really hurts me for two reasons. One, I really felt for Bart there. And another reason, I didn't thought up of this first! Then, some guy that looks like Tuxedo Mask comes in and don't worry it'll end happily. The worst part was two months later, the crooks made a cameo appearance in "Lisa The Greek". Why Wally and Jay?! Why?!

That's it for The Simpsons season one discussion.

My favorite season 1 episode was "The Crepes of Wrath" as well, simply because it was very funny and you could also sympathize with Bart as well. The resolution with Bart magically learning to speak French was silly, but sweet.

As for my least favorite, that'd probably be "Homer's Odyssey". It was just dull and there are some noticeable changes (Burns's voice, Black Smithers). Homer wanting to kill himself didn't sit well with me because you would think that'd be out of character, but at the same time, it was only the 3rd episode and we didn't know his character very well. I think the title of this episode is pretty clever, though.

Favorite epiosde: Probably either "There's No Disgrace Like Home" (the electro-shock therapy session's a classic), "Krusty Gets Cancelled" (first appearance of Sideshow Bob), or the first Christmas special (one of my all-time favorite Homer lines: "if you want (a tattoo) you'll have to pay for it out of your own allowance." :-) ).

Least favorite: Not sure I have one, but got sick of seeing the promos asking "did Bart cheat on his intelligence test?" that Fox reran to *death* (along with the episode "Bart the Genius") back in its first season in 1990 (only 13 episodes were made for the first season, and thus, the show got reran to *death* for most of that year---by the time new episodes came along that fall, well...).

-B.

"Krusty Gets Busted" is my favorite episode from season 1. A great story about never giving up on people you believe in. Also great acting by Kelsey Grammer. But there also other good episodes lie "Life in the Fast lane" and "Some Enchanted Evening." "Homer's Odyssey" is the most boring episode to me.

my favorite episode from season 1 is "Krusty gets busted"
a memorable episode and i like Shideshow bob as villain

least favorite is "Bart the genius"

Oops... I knew that re: Busted/Cancelled.

Well, Busted was Bob's first *speaking* role, anyway (forgot about the *very* brief cameo of Bob in "Head")...

From the first season I liked "Krusty Gets Busted" "Bart the General" and "The Telltale Head" which are mostly Bart based episodes, but they were good Bart episodes nonetheless.

It's a close tie between "Krusty Gets Busted" and "The Crepes of Wrath".

"Busted" had some great direction by Brad Bird, arguably the best of the first season. It also had arguably the best script, too. "Crepes" crept towards the type of sarcastic edge that The Simpsons would more fully develop in season 2, and had a good mixture of funny moments and serious ones, like when Bart was suffering with the two French jerks.

"Crepes" also has the recognition of one of the funniest season 1 lines, upon an overworked, disheveled Bart eating a single grape: "Ungrateful swine! We give you food, we give you shelter, and THIS is how you repay us?!"

Least favorite is definitely "Moaning Lisa". I appreciate that they developed Lisa's character in it, but it's just not very funny overall, outside of a couple moments during the Bart vs. Homer boxing video game (I always crack up at Homer waking up from his nightmare screaming, then calmly and immediately going back to sleep).
