Simpsons Movie BBC interview with several minutes of footage

You read that correctly. In case there's a legal issue I won't post the direct YouTube link, but if you go to www.simpsonschannel.com you should see it. The clips are of scenes we've seen stuff from before -- Homer & Bart on the roof, Homer talking to the family about the mob coming after him, and Bart skateboarding naked -- but this is the most finished, uncut footage we've ever seen from the movie.

So far, I don't see anything here that causes me to think they've escaped the new style of Simpsons writing. But by virtue of the fact that it's a movie, I still have to assume it'll be more worthwhile.

(On another personal note, I'm wondering if we need a consolidated thread about this movie. But in keeping with the trend we've set, and due to the fact that this really is significant, I'll give it its own thread.)

Right, although I should probably mention that if you don't want ANY jokes or aspects of the plot spoiled whatsoever, you shouldn't watch those clips. But that's really pretty self-explanatory.

Eh, both clips were from stuff we've seen in trailers so far, to an extent, anyway. It was nice to see a little more from said scenes, though, like Marge teaching Lisa to keep all her anger bottled up inside forever, and Homer saying "They don't even know where we live!" and the mob turning around towards him.

Anyway, funny or not, this movie is going to be gorgeous.

Did anybody notice those plots on the right hand side?

"He Loves To Fly And He D'ohs
Homer flies in Mr. Burns's private plane and subsequently refuses to go back to normal flying."

What? Since when does Homer fly in the first place?

"Midnight Towboy
Homer gets a tow truck in New Jersey and ends up running afoul of the local mob."

What's Homer doing in New Jersey?

Jesus Christ, the plots get more and more convoluted every season.

Ah, nice long clips with excellent animation for me to gush over. Very nicely done on the scene where Homer shakes Bart off the TV antenna, sending him rolling down the roof.

And Matt and Al say that they've been working on the movie since 2003. I guess that would explain why the show's overall quality consistency (which wasn't perfect as it was) took a sudden nosedive in Season 14/15 - they were way too busy with this.

"I'LL teach YOU to laugh at things that are FUNNY!!"

Too bad he can't teach me to laugh at things that aren't funny, or that would have been a great line.

I dunno, the clips are hardly brilliant... but I think they're pretty decent. The pacing is a lot better here than it was in the commercial. But the roof clip is so... cartoony. Homer is trying to hammer his kids' hands off so he'll fall of the roof...

I mean Homer is stupid but...

That's not funny, that's terrible.

The mob clip is still really good, though.

The roof scene...yeah, pretty bad. More of the stupid white trash Homer and Bart we've been seeing for the last few years. Yet I'm sure it'll get belly laughs

Of course, you gotta realize that Homer isn't considering the repercussions of his actions. He's just trying to have fun, and when Flanders points out how dangerous it is, he just shrugs him off ('cause, after all, Homer never listens to Flanders' advice - that's the kind of guy he is).

It'd be more horrible if Bart didn't enjoy it either, but instead, he's laughing uproariously throughout the whole thing. If anything, it's sort of a twisted "like father, like son" moment that connects you to the characters while still having humor about it.
