Simpsons Couch Gag Question

A few weeks back there was a Simpsons couch gag where some people were looking at a picture of the family sitting on the couch, with the words "Ceci n'est pas une Couch Gag" on the bottom.

Is this "Ceci..." thing some sort of famous work of art? I also saw something like it done with a Marshmallow Peeps somewhere ("Ceci n'est pas une Peep.")
