Silent movie remakes

If they were to remake some silent movies would they be successful?
I'd love to see the 1925 movie "the lost world" considering its the 20's the special effects are mindblowing as you can see from this clip.

They could re do them in 3D. they could keep the existing music, or update it. what do you think would work best?

could they get away with modern actors doing the voiceovers for the silent characters? Imagine Brad Pitt as Nosferatu

The best silent movies turn the constraints of the technology to their advantage. They engage because they are honed to suit, not in spite of, the medium. There is a lot more to good film-making than a strong narrative.

There is also the old line: why re-make great movies when there are plenty of poorly made ones that would benefit more?

City Lights would be an interesting remake. Saying that the original is a masterpiece by Mr Chaplin.

Wings was partly remade as Pearl Harbour...

Which is an insult to Wings really as its an excellent film whereas Pearl Harbour was a steaming pile of poo!
