Hey - has anyone seen this film?

I got a bit confused at the end (though to be fair this is easily done - lol!) - can anyone explain it to me? I thought she and the daughter went home to where the dad was?

Was the daughter actually Alessa at the end and not Sharon?

Silent Hill is really purgatory and it sits on the outskirts of Hell. The "survivors" are not really survivors because they are already dead. Rose and Sharon died in the the car accident that sent them to Silent Hill. Rose and Sharon escape the depths of Hell but can not escape Silent Hill because they are dead.
 
No, they are still in the Silent Hill reality when they passed over from our reality to the evil verson of Silent Hill. This is why she was in the corridor of the school at the same time as her husband, but they could not see each other, and yet he felt her presance because he was on the good side of reality where evil had not hold on. She was on the bad side where evil reigned supreme, which is why she didn't sense him. Same for the time at the end when she went home, she was still in the Alternate Silent Hill reality, not our reality - which is why he could sense her preseance but not see her at the house.
 
If you like the games then I recommend it to you. You should understand it a bit more if you like the games. As the storyline in the movie works in a similar fashion to the way the games storylines work.
 
Just make sure you watch it at night with the lights out, same as you would do when playing the Silent Hill games. You get the best effect from the movie if you do this :D
