Silent Hill

Enjoyed this film on DVD.

Haven't watched a film on C4 for over a decade. They lost the plot when Grade took over and never recovered it.

I watched it for the first time on C4 last night and enjoyed it, although I was a little bit confused by the end. I wish i had recorded it now so that I could rewind and review the plot, e.g. who was that woman with Aleyssa? I might have to get the DVD to see the film as properly intended.

I took it, in the film,
there were 3 distinct Silent Hills. The Silent Hill in the living world where the Sheriff and husband where, the smoky ash snowing Silent Hill in the afterlife(I took it that the mother followed her daughter into the afterlife as the daughter was already partly there. And the female cop died when her motorcycle crashed) and the siren-screeching rusty Silent Hill of hell.

I really liked Silent Hill, I went to the cinemas to see it when it was released and thoroughly enjoyed it all the way through.

As others have said, it's probably the best game to movie there has been.

The first game scared the hell out of me though, I only ever played the demo and was really freaked out by it.

I never played the game so I have nothing to compare it with, but I found the film really creepy. I did think it got pretty weird about halfway through and I was a bit puzzled by the ending. I'm annoyed to read that it was cut too.

The first game isn't available for PC and I don't have the right console.

It's possible that the mother died also, when her car crashed.
There is a more detailed plot summary on Wikipedia which agrees with your view not mine.

Yeah, I'd agree with that.

I remember being freaked out the first time the sirens went off and we went to hell/Silent Hill when I played the game. A bona fide WTF? moment that was. The movie captured that just brilliantly.

I remember going to see this when it 1st came out. I knew it was based on a video game but that's it, hadn't played the game. The cinema was empty and there was only a handful of people there.

I have to say i thought it was a fantastic visual piece of cinema. I thought it was a great film, not entirely a horror, but it freaked the hell out of me! I liked it, plus i thought Radha Mitchell did a fantastic job as the main character.

I remember it being a 15 in the cinema and i did think at times it should have been an 18 as there were some scenes that were quite horrific and disturbing. However what's even more disturbing is Ch4's treatment of the film cutting it to shreRAB when it was on AFTER the watershed and was given a 15 certificate in the cinemas. There shouldn't have been any need apart from giving a warning before the film started. It's 2008, come on now!

I'd happily watch Silent Hill on Halloween over Saw 5 any day of the week! :D

/Bumped for love

Seriously underrated, and by far the best game to film adaptation there's been. As an adaptation it works really well, but as a stand alone horror it's a terrific slice of fun too. A beautiful sense of style throughout, and some truly scary moments. Though I only have a basic understanding of the game as I only played a few hours of the second one on the PS2, this film managed to capture a lot of what made it great and scary.

Marvellous.
