Silent Hill

I'm watching on Ch4+1 as missed the start, this is a hella disturbing and horrible horror film. Anyone else watching this or have any opinions on it?

It's a decent stab at turning a game into a movie. Better than Resident Evil anyway. It tries to stick to the game as much as possible. It's certainly no classic tho.

Agree.. Resident Evil films were all crap, especially the third and rarely scary. The first half of this film is fab, it lags a bit in the second half. Some horrific scenes though, particularly when Cybill meets her fiery end.. :D

It is one of the better computer game to film out there, it's got a fabulous atmosphere that comes close to the game that I played, the very first one. I believe it takes aspects from a few of the games, not just the first one.

A reviewer in the Radiotimes didn't think much of the effects!! I think they are rather good, especially because there is hardly any CGI effects when it comes to the monsters!!

A LOT of people hated it, I think it's fantastic even though some of the script is dodgy. Also I believe it uses a lot of the actual music from the games in the film.

Check out the French film Brotherhood of the Wolf, another good film from the same director.

I liked the film, I just didn't like the fact that some chin-wobbler in an office somewhere deemed it necessary to cut scenes out of the film to protect our very souls.

Channel 4 after 9pm too.

Pathetic.

Yeah, I notice they cut the scene where Pyramid Head first rips Anna's clothes off, then procedes to rip her entire skin off in one pull. To be fair I did find that quite shocking but it's post-watershed..

The sirens are exactly like the game - just before some really scary stuff started happening the sirens always gave you a heaRAB-up so you could reload your gun and prepare to sh!t your pants!

I actually didn't watch it, I was walking through the living room and they flicked across it, and it was just as the siren started as they were on the church steps, I said (stupidly) watch this bit, it's amazing..

Cue Pyramid Head, picks girl up, and the scene gets cut.

Family looks at me like I'm an idiot. :(

Nurses were in the game. Quite a complex game actually, all the enemies are manifestations of Alessa's fears. Alessa is the ugly chick in the bed. :D

This is Sky version ..?
why pay for a film being butchered idiots ..
Im Hugely shocked an cancelling my sky subs ..ANGRY

How many more films have they Ruined in HD as well !!!???

It was nothing to do with Sky, the cuts were down to Channel 4 as this was the channel on which it was shown. I've seen the film before and recorded it tonight on C4HD, but if its been butchered by C4 then i might not bother...Why cut something that is being shown post 9pm?!? The film is only a 15 RAB.

if you have never played the games i can really understand why people might have thought it was a bit crap, and even if you have played the games you know that despite the fact the writer must have gone "we need to go through the games and get every element from silent hill into the film. creepy nurses - check. cybil - check. hospital - check. foggy snowy lanRABcape - check..." there was just something missing from the film.

it is difficult to get the entire feeling, story or characters of a silent hill game across in a 90 minute film.

In fairness i think it was a very good film when viewed alongside the games as like a long movie trailer for the games.

Too often a game comes out of a film, and its the game that is the secondary item, this time the film is most definatly the extra.

yes, i thought the effects were extremley well done, especially the nurses! considering the elements were taken from a game which is entirely graphics, i thought that putting as little cgi into silent hill was a nice touch!

it wasnt cut, it was butchered

I have Silent Hill on DVD and love it for the visuals and the music. It's one of the films I have rewatched endlessly. I've not played the game, so differences between the game and film didn't bother me. I like the monsters and the atmosphere generally.

I'm not so keen on the ending - once she reaches the demon's room and we have that massive, unsubtle info-dump it all becomes a bit so-so.

(I also like the first Resident Evil film, which I found quite intense. The other two were a bit by-the-numbers and derivative.)
