signal strenth

Hi can anyone tell me why my iphone 3gs shows the phone provider but shows no signal strenth thanks!!!!!
 
Usually it means that it`s blocked. Doesn`t work on any carrier from the country you are in.
 
thanks tethyus but if i remove the sim from my iphone put it into my erricsson then put it back into my iphone it works !!!!! but if i power of my iphone then turn it back on it shows the provider but no signal strenth. weird but hope you understand what i have said cheers !!!!!!!!
 
Then only reset the network settings: Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset network settings and after a reboot everything should be ok.
 
man i have a 3gs with the same problem.....i tried everything but nothing seems to work the phone works with the original carrier sim even though it has been jailbroken and unlock

and there are many people having the same problem as us

It is not your sim that is the problem. It's the phone being blocked by the network that's causing the issue hence your sim card works in your Sony phone but not the Iphone.

try checking the Iphone's IMEI number on sites like CheckMEND - The Global Second-Hand Stolen Goods Database for Public & Trade Checking, I'm 99% certain their report will confirm the phone is reported lost, stolen or an insurance claim.
 
No the imei is valid had the phone a while stupidly updated to ver 4 . After I take the sim from the Ericsson and insert it to my iPhone it works. Only when I power off and back on I have the problem of it showing the provider but no signal ! Cheers.
 
if the phone was blacklisted it wouldnt be working within the country we would have to send it out of the country for it to work again.........the 1 i have is working pretty good with its original but not with anyother sim
