sidekick lx keyboard malfunctioning?

the keyboard on my sidekick lx is acting up--when i press q,w,e,r,t,y, u, and i, it shows up as qt, wy, eu,ri,qt,wy,eu,ri, respectively.
is this problem fixable (if so, what can i do?), or is my phone just plain broken?
