Sidekick in Canada

Ruin

My contract with Evil Fido just expired and I dont want to go on another contract just yet as im unsure where im going to be living within the next 2 years ( just graduated and taking some time off).

Living in Canada we dont get the best cell phones real quick, in fact we have yet to get the sidekick, fido had a crappy clone for a while, tho I never bought into it.

I found a sidekick 2 unlocked on ebay for US $50 + shipping which is pretty good I was thinking... I could use this with Rogers or fight with Fido for a retention package and use this phone.

Ive scoured the forums and the net looking for what features work in Canada.
Does the sidekick use wifi so I can just use my work/home or a public hotspot or would i need a stupid data package with the phone company?

Anyways any info on if its worth it or whatever would be appreciated.

Canada gets more of a better selection of GSM phones than that of the US.

SideKicks are exclusive only for T-Mobile. Even though it is unlocked, you can only use it for voice. You cannot text message because the proxy settings are geared for T-Mobile only. Search the forums again, this has been discussed many times.

What ever gave you the idea that the SideKick supports Wi-Fi. Look up the features on GSMarena or Phonescoop. Nowhere does it say that any of the SideKicks (1, 2, or 3) supports Wi-Fi. If you're looking for Wi-Fi, look for a smartphone or PDA phone like the HTC Wizard, Tornado, or TyTn.

forget the sidekick, without tmobile you cant do anything with it, tmobile saves all the data on the network, using it w/o tmobile is just crippling it

The Wizard is cheap because it's pretty dated (almost 2 years old). The new replacement already comes out (HTC TyTN).

I suggests the T-Mobile Dash aka HTC Excalibur/S620 if you want a compact WiFi phone.
