Sidekick Contract/ SIM card question?

A few months ago i took the sidekick data plan off of my sidekick due to the fact that i lost my phone. When I bought a new sidekick, I called tmobile but i told them I dont want to put the web on it, I just want to use it as a normal phone. They told me that this is not possible to do anymore. I would like to know what would happen if i put my SIM card into the sidekick? Would it work? Or would I be automatically charged the data plan? thanks in advance
