Sidekick 3 VS Sidekick iD

Okay... i'm stuck between these two phones. I hope you can help me pick one.

Here are some things that i'm stuck on between the 2 phones.

1. The sidekick 3 has a camera and the iD doesn't. I already have a digital camera and i've seen & heard about how crappy the pictures come out that are taken with the sidekick 3. But, if i don't have a camera on the phone and i don't have my camera with me, i won't be able to capture those "kodak moments"

2. The sidekick 3 is $199 and the iD is only $99. Considering i don't have a job and i have to use my allowance (haha) to buy it, the iD would be better because its cheaper.

3. The iD only comes with like 4 themes, while with the sidekick 3 you can make your own themes using the memory card.

4. I've also heard that the screen size on the iD is smaller than the sidekick 3. I've looked at pictures and the screen does look smaller, but everytime i look at the specs. its the exact same size as all the other sidekicks; 240x160.


I guess the biggest holdup is the price difference. Almost everyone i know has a sidekick 3, and i don't want to be the only one with a "less-cool" sidekick.

See, to me the iD looks really really ugly. I would personally go for the Sidekick 3 because its pretty classy in terms of appearance, and the camera is good enough to be useful if you ever really need it. If you go on eBay you might be able to find Sidekicks cheaper then the $199 at T-Mobile. You could also wait a few months for the Sidekick Slide and Sidekick 4, the latter of which appears to be a big step forward for the Sidekick series.
 
i really want the sidekick 3, but i don't know if i'll have the $200 for the phone plus all the activation fees and stuff. My alltel contract expires in september and my parents are cancelling it because i'm switching to t-mobile. So i have to get "a" sidekick in september otherwise i won't have a phone =(.

oh and also, my parents won't let me buy anything off of ebay =(
 
The iD to me looks like a child's toy. At least the SK3 looks more matured.

For starters, the pictures are not horrible on the SK3. The quality of the pictures only LOOK bad because of the SK3s low resolution screen. Export the photos and they will look a lot better on your computer screen.

Secondly, yes, the screen on the iD is 0.2 inches smaller. In a sense it's good because it's the same number of pixels as the SK3, but smaller screen, so the images looks slightly more crisp.

As EChid said, the Slide comes out in the Fall, so the reports say. If you like it, however I think it looks completely horrible and a sliding screen defeats the name SideKICK, you can hold out for that.
 
Another thing I should mention, try checking out the B/S/T section of these forums for Sidekicks. If you find a good seller with good feedback its much harder to get screwed. After doing a quick scan, here is what I found:

SK3 with 2gig card for $150

Or, if worse comes to worse and you just want to save up, get an el cheapo 10/10 SK2 for $60 here.
Again, ask for feedback and for details and you will be fine.
 
i agree 100%. it shouldn't be a sidekick if the screen doesn't flip the way all the other sidekicks do.


and EChid, thanks for directing me to the B/S/T section. I already have a sidekick 2, but i'm getting tired of it so thats why i wanted to upgrade.
 
well to be honest i think you should go for the skid,after a year of using my sk3 i noticed its reception flaw compared to the skid. the skid also loads up some pages faster than the sk3 (trust me i own both). the skid has a bit of a smaller screen but it also is sharper and more crisp than that of the sk3. i put my sk3 away and dont really know if i will ever go back,plus with all the upcoming sidekicks coming out,i think the skid can hold me down till the 4th quarter of this year. the camera on the sk3 isnt all to bad if you know how to play with the right settings,just like most phones. i did always fix up my pics with art pallete pro (in the sidekick catalog for $10)..

i've read and heard people complain that the iD doesn't have EDGE and the speeds are slower. Well, isn't it true that the Sidekick 2 doesn't have EDGE either? When i'm browsing the web on my sidekick 2 it seems pretty fast to me. I've used my friend's sideick 3 browser before and it actually seemed slower than the sidekick 2. I don't know, maybe its because of the reception or something, but to me, i didn't see any difference between the EDGE and regular GPRS speeds.
 
well the i.d is faster than the sk2,thats for sure,i think the best thing for you to do is go to a tmobile store and try out a demo of a sk3 and a skid. ive got both and to be honest i dont see myself ever using my sk3 again.
 
the only thing thats holding me back about the iD is the lack of camera...

i wouldn't even care if it was a crappy VGA camera as long as it had one.


because with my luck, i'd forget to bring my camera somewhere, and there would be a "kodak moment" and i wouldn't have a camera on my phone so i'd miss it.
 
naw lol my sk3 is my backup to my skid i cant sell it lol. if those kodat moments happen often when you are caught off guard then maybe the sk3 is better for you,id just test both demos out at the store.
