Sidekick 08 help for t-mobile?

ok so i got a free sidekick from a friend 2 days ago cause she didnt need it so. I was wondering can i buy a Prepaid simcard at the store in cash, and how much is a sim card and when you get a prepaid card do you get a cellphone number there and 1 more thing do they need information about me like where i live etc
