Sick of Will Smith and I, Robot/I Am Legend/Hancock -type films he keeps churning out

My only problem with Smith is his lack of willingness imo to really stretch himself as an actor, in terms of playing a darker character, ie a standard villain, let alone a really nasty piece of work.

I think he is scared to do so and 'lose' his fans.

"I Robot" was an excellent film (not least because of the lovely Bridget Moynahan). I refuse to watch "Pursuit of Happyness" due to the deliberate misspelling in the title of the movie (worse than "Hear'Say").

Have you not see Wild Wild West ;)

Though I do think Will Smith is a good blockbuster action movie star and was quite impressed with his performance in The Pursuit of Happyness which showed he can do drama too.

High 5.

You are correct. Carlton provided the real comedy in the Fresh prince. His dancing used to CRACK me up!

I don't mind Will's films, it's nice to see how far he's come since the Fresh Prince but i wouldn't go see a film just because he's in it.

I'll watch Hancock, be honest, it looks funny. I just wish they'd stop plugging it everywhere you look. Seriously, that's one heavily marketed movie.

I think Will Smith is a great actor.

Sure, I Robot, Hancock and I Am Legend are a little similar, but who can blame him? They were hugely sucessful.
And let's not forget how brilliant he was in The Pursuit Of Happyness.
He's a very serious actor. I find it weird to think that he's who I used to watch as the Prince of Bel Air.

If you don't like his films then why watch them? (and I very much doubt that you do, its just another topic for you to moan about).

At least you acknowledge he's good at what he does.

The spelling of Happyness is deliberate because it is spelled wrong on a sign in the film. It is commented on in the film.

The latest of Will Smith's movies do seem to have a trend. But i really enjoyed I Am Legend and want to see Hancock, so i don't really mind.

I think Will Smith is a persistently good actor, Pursuit of Happyness shows how good he is, it's heartbreaking.

I cant stand Will Smith in films. He's lost & is a puppet of the major studios lazy ways of making money , 'lets bung a bankabale black gezer who's acceptable to a white audience' seems to spring to mind with him. He seems a good bloke but is always miscast & just tenRAB to look , sound & be the same in all his films. How good would I Robot have been if say Ralph Fiennes , Jason Isaccs or Daniel Craig had been in the lead role. He is just not convincing enough , his im a cool funny dude routine wears a bit thin in flms/vehicle movies. But when have American films been much to do with the art form as about the balance sheet? European , SE Asia cinema is wher its at , not Hollywood & its never ending succesion of cardboard cut outs in badly made dross that grace the multiplexes.

:)

I think Will Smith is a good actor and i have enjoyed majority of his films.

For anyone who thinks he cannot act in a wider range of movies, go and watch 'The Pursuit of Happyness'. A beautifully made film and his acting in that is wonderful.

I am looking forward to watching Hancock. It doesn't look like the typical cliched superhero movie.

I also agree with the OP who said Will Smith should play a role of a villain. I can see him doing a great job in a darker role.

Oh no, how wrong you are.
The mistake occurs in the movie. Smith's character says throughout the film that the graffiti "happyness" neeRAB to be wiped off or spelt correctly.

You're missing out on a brilliant film. Watch it.

I cant WAIT for Hancock. It looks HIRARIOUS!!!!!;)
I usually really like his films. Independence Day was just BRILLIANT. Men in Black 1 & 2 both great. I Robot was really good etc. So to the OP............
SHUT UP MOANING ABOUT EVERYONE AND START BEING POSITIVE.

I think he's an excellent actor who should look at some better roles.

His best one for me so far is "Ali" - which was an excellent film and a great potrayal.

In fact, the portrayal was so good that some of Ali's old frienRAB, who met Smith when he was 'getting in to' the role thought he was so good that it was almost like being with the man himself.

I think Will Smith is great. You do have a point about films like I Robot and I Am Legend being similar though. But I do think he's a great actor.

As others have said, there's a reason why it's spelt wrong and the main character points out the same error in the film. I thought it was a brilliant film and if that's your only reason for not seeing it then you're missing out imo! :p
