Sick of Nextel... Now Cingular?

Hey everyone...

Im looking to get an unlocked phone and have been lurking here for a while and doing some research getting my knowledge on the subject. Im in NYC, and Im completely tired of my nextel. My contract is ending soon and I am probably going to Cingular. Ive been looking at phones on myworldphone and have found the LG KG320 and the SE K790 to be both interesting and something I'd consider. Right now im leaning towards the 790 due to its screen size and feature but Ive also read that it may have problems on Cingular unless I get the 790a with the GSM 850 band... either way, I wanted to know if anyone had any recommendations for unlocked phones or any input on the decision that Ive made so far...

looking for:
candybar like phone
good camera
decent memory and features
good screen

Thanks!

I live in Brooklyn, and had a phone without the 850 band (nokia N70) and never had a problem. If you are going to buy an unlocked phone at the start f a new contract, I suggest getting a free phone from cingular, it never hurts to have a spare. Check out the N73, it has all of the features you are looking for, and the added benefit of a more advanced operating system than the two you mentioned plus it is quad band. I have cingular and really like it.

Yeah picking up a phone from cingular as a back up is a good idea... I will definitely do it especially cuz its cheap and a nice form of insurance... but im still looking for something along the lines of the SE K790 thatll give me good performance, the regular phones offered by carriers here arent all that great

Alright... hopefully i can decide on a phone that I want... k790a still seems like the best choice, with next up being the lg kg320

thanks to all who contributed

merry christmas

Avoid the KG320 like the plague It's slick looking and has a 1.3 megapixel cam, but that's about all it has going for it. Poor battery life and poor volume. It states it has speakerphone ability, but I've yet to find it. Although you can hear a phonecall through the backspeaker to a degree that you really have no control over. That speaker is usually reserved for video and MP3 playback.

Mine came with a wall charger that was of a U.K. type and the supplied adapter for U.S. didn't work so I had to get one that did from a local shop that sells accessories. The only option I found for an additional charger in the States would be to get one for a K800 Chocolate as they both use the same type of connection to the phone. All other LG's I've seen have a wider prong. Ebaying would be another option, but I still haven't found replacement batteries available anywhere.

I think you mentioned your in NY. You'd be real umipressed trying to hear a phonecall in the city streets with it real quick.

As for mine, It's already been regulated to a backup phone and I've only had it for a month.
