SIAMESE FIGHTING FISH?

Okay well im just starting out with 2 siamese 1 male and one female .. ive heard that you can actually put other fish (aslong as it isnt another siamese male) in the same tank as the male and the female ... is this true? or can I not have any other fish in the tank with the male and female?
