I wrote last week to say I was having severe pain in my lower back 5 weeks after my 2 level laminectomy. I finally got fed up with the pain last Thursday and called my doctor to say I needed to come in or I was going to the ER. Luckily they fit me in on Friday, and my doctor diagnosed the pain as coming from my SI joint. I am relatively thin and he said he probably disturbed the joint when he was doing the lami. I was so relieved to know it wasn't my back. Has anyone else had this following a lami? He put me on Relafen twice a day for 6 weeks or until my symptoms are completely gone, and he wrote me a new prescription for PT so they can focus on the joint. He said they can often pop the joint back into place, but then I'll need to learn what to do to keep it there. Thankfully, the Relafen is helping quite a bit and I can sleep again!!! Would love to know if others have had this problem and how long it took to get better.
Thanks :)

I have SI problems and the best thing that I can tell you is to get to the P/T and make sure that they are focusing on this joint and also learn how to know when/if it pops out agian (an then how to pop it back in). For me, the ins. refused to allow me to go to P/T for 1 1/2 years and by the time I was able to see oe, it was too late. I now have a permanent SI dysfunction and if they pop it back into place...it pops right back out, the next time I begin to walk. I know that my mother in law has just been dx. with si problems and she went to P/T and she now uses a Tens unit and she has gotten great relief, while cont. to go to P/t.

I am sure you will be fine, since you are getting into to P/T right away. My thougnts are with you...I know how painfulit can be.

I have had this problem for almost 5 years now...too late for anything but surgery...per my Dr. If I could have PT, I'd be running through the door begging for it... Drs. didn't diagnose the problem until April...after diagnosing everything else. Having surgery on 6/26...
If you ever think of having surgery on the SI joint...see a specilist who deals with SI joints the majority of the time... Take care...hope you are feeling better.

My SIJ was fused as well during my L-3, L-4 L-5 S-1. I have to tell you that the best way to help you with SIJ pain is a good stretch and right excericises. I was lucky to have PT guy who was so good and also they had warm water walking swimming pool.

And don't be afraid to do it, this helps tremendeosly. He would put me on moist heat after excercises and than massaged that area only for about 20 minutes... Talking about feeling good...

Take care and all the best!
