Hello,
Can anyone tell me a cardio exercise that someone can do with SI joint pain? I used to ride my exercise bike but everytime I ride it I experience severe pain and I can hardly stand for a few days.
I am getting so frustrated trying to find something.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mary :(

Hi. I do pedalling exercises but with a floaty in the pool. It takes all the pressure off the spine. Sorry I can't help any other way. Allan

Thanks for that suggestion. I will give that a try. I am willing to do anything at this point!

Hi, I have been using a recurabent bike and that takes the pressure off of your spine. I've had 10 back procedures and this is the only oone I can do that doesn't make my back hurt. It might work for you. Just a thought. Jane the invertebrate

I just had an SI joint fusion in January, but suffered from SI joint pain and sciatica for quite a while. The jury's still out on my surgery at this point, but this is my 4th back surgery so it's hard to say what all I really have going on.

I was completely unable to sit and trying to ride an exercise bike sent me into the fetal position in pain for a couple of days. Core strengthening exercises like Pilates are usually good for SI joint problem.

Do a search for the DonTigny Method for exercises which may also help.

Not all SI joint problems need surgery, but sometimes they do. There are very few doctors (including few spine surgeons) who can properly diagnose SI joint issues. You'll need to do a lot of research to find a doctor who can properly help you in your area.

Best wishes!

Thank so much for your reply and advise. I will check out the exercises you suggested.
I hope you recover from your SI joint fusion quickly and with grat success.

I had a revision of my SI joint fusion surgery in Dec. I asked my Dr. if I could do physical thereapy....his answer was NO, he said they have messed up his SI joint patients...so no thereapy!! The exercise bike...I also have the recorabent type (sp. wrong!!!)...nope that causes a major problem also...before surgery it would just set off the SI joint...and can't use it right now...the Dr. had suggested the aqua therapy previous to surgery, but I didn't have access to a pool at that time... I found that ultra sound therapy helped a bit..as well as heat patches... Hope you feel better.

Hi Sage,
Thanks for the advice on the recurabent bike. I was going to try it at the local fitness club but now I am not so sure I will. I have heard aqua therapy helps but the only access I have to a pool is the local rec. center and I am not crazy about going there with all of the commotion around me. I will try and see if I can do aqua therapy at a place I see advertised around my home.
Currently I use Lidoderm patches that tend to take the "edge off" but most of the time the pain is still there. I will contact my PT to see if they can so the ultra sound therapy on me.

Again...thanks so much for answering my question.
