If that is the case then have play.com not broken the law?

I know shops are not allowed to sell any dvd's or cd's to the public before the release date.I would have thought that the same would apply to internet sites like play.com.Even if the customer has payed for it in advance. They must abide by the release date.

I'm not sure what the law is to be fair. All I know is that Play, to date, offer a service far superior to any other site I have used when it comes to delivery.

It's not against the law but it is a condition of sale which the suppliers attach to companies if they receive something before the release date.

As for Shrek 2 there are three different versions.

  • The box standard version, one disk
  • Two disk special with a cool DVD case that has a birthday card style voice (It says Sherk and Donkey on another whirl wind adventure) two disk
  • Sherk 1 and 2 together entitle the story so far, two disk

I don't think there is any law against selling it earlier than the release date.

Unless of course the retailer has signed a contract to say they would not, in which case they would be in breach of contract.

Online retailers send the products out early so they are likely to arrive on the day of release. This helps them with the problem of people paying the little bit extra from the shops, because they want it on the day of release.

Anyway, I'm not bothered cause I got my copy last night from Big W, who had signs everywhere saying it was released today, but were quite happy to sell me one of the many copies which were on the shelves.

THERE IS ANOTHER..............

Woolworths / Big W have an exclusive box which has a plastic moulded Shrek face on the front with rubber wax in the ears. Looks good on the shelf. 2 Disc Edition...

I just got this one from MVC (as I wanted the 2-disc and I was trading in 4 old titles). It's nasty taky and too big for the shelf. It will be stored in the loft. It's meant to open out into a DVD holder and can hold 10 DVD's or something similar.

Wish I had the talky version.

I was wondering about something.

I want the 'Shrek: The Story So Far...' DVD but I do not want to miss out of the Far Away Idol and alternate endings that is available on the Shrek 2 special edition two disc DVD. As the Shrek 2 movie which is included in the 'Shrek: The Story So Far...' DVD is only 1 disc, will I miss out on all special features?

Well IMO there's not a fat lot on disc 2 and what is on there is pretty pathetic. It mostly consists of clips from the film used for other purposes like burping in different languages etc. All the good extras including Far Far Away Idol are on disc 1. I was hoping that this 2 discer was going to be a worthwhile second disc but as has been happening with DVRAB recently the film companies are just producing 2 discers to milk a few extra pounRAB out of people and not putting any worthwhile content on them. Unfortunately it doesn't tell you specifically on the package what you get on what disc so it's hard to make up your mind unless you already know.
