shows you used to love as a kid, but now think"that was dumb, whyd i like such crap"

First two seasons of Digimon: Whoo boy. While the story, characters and dub cast are still reasonably good, the already cheap animation has aged horrifically. Even Tamers, which had merely decent animation, has aged better than these two shows.

Virtually any 90's Nicktoon save for Rocko or Angry Beavers. Especially the Klasky/Csupo shows; do they make their characters ugly on purpose?

X-Men: TAS and Spider-Man: TAS. Both have great voice acting and good writing, but the animation has, again, aged very poorly. X-Men is more guilty of this than Spider-Man, though; who in the world thought it would be a good idea to give an action-packed series like this to AKOM? At least Spidey got TMS for some episodes.
 
Most of Family Guy's references were dated when they were made. Such as the shipoopi song. God knows how old that reference is. But, Family Guy often manages to be funny even if you don't know what they're referencing.

My point on the violence is that in Looney Tunes a character gets hit on the head with an anvil and stars spin around his head. That may have been funny when I was a kid, but it just isn't enough anymore. But, take a look at last week's Family Guy episode. You saw Peter smash a teenage girl's face into a fire extinguisher until a pool of blood formed on the ground. It's so over the top that it's hilarious. When you have stuff like that on the air an anvil over the head pales in comparison.
 
Looney Tunes did indeed use pop culture references, but it was'nt constant, 'in your face' references like they do today. They knew how to make a reference back then. After all, I'm sure most of us thought "of course you realize this means war!" was a Bugs Bunny phrase when they were younger, when it's actually a Groucho Marx phrase.
However, your view on Tom & Jerry is so ignorant, it'll probaly be pointless to try and convince otherwise.
 
Dragonball Z - The characters always have to tell their life story before a battle and all of the screaming is annoying. The saiyans became the strongest, no, the only useful race of the show while humans like Krilin, Yamcha and Tien were left as weaklings.

Pokemon - The whole concept.

Digimon - Next time you want to rip-off Pokemon, try to organize your monsters. There's so many strange digivolutions that Augumon can probably digivolve into Leomon. (Only a digimon fan will get that joke.)

Voltron - Need I explain?

Tom and Jerry - Jerry just happens to always live where Tom is and Tom isn't cat enough to eat 1 little mouse.

Bug Bunny - Annoying, unfunny, unentertaining etc.

Aeon Flux - It was "kewl" when I was a youngster but now...

Pokemon - went WAAAAYY downhill during the Johto League seasons, I tuned in a few years later, and it's worse now, May and Max were just horrible...

Digimon - I actually liked this longer than I did Pokemon, although I despised the 02 ending (did anyone not?), now though, it looks pretty...childish, although I can't quite call it crap

Oh, and to a previous user who dissed the animation for X-Men: TAS: Yes it's not as good as modern animation, but it was made in flipping 1992, lot can change in animation over 15 years time, you know! AND before people equate it with anime, it was made in CANADA!!!
 
Well again, to each his/her own, but the thing is, to a lot of people, that kind of violence is just offensive and disgusting. Not to me personally, but then again I really don't find it funny, either... I guess I'm just weird.

I don't laugh much at stars circling around characters' heads either. There's lots more to old cartoons than just violence though.
 
He played the guardian scientist Dr. Go (better known by his toy name of baron von joy). He used the same German accent that he used to play one of the german investors from the ep where the germans took over the power plant. However, not being one of the "main 6" he didnt appear that much.
 
You know, I bought a TEddy Ruxpin DVD at the dollar store and I was afraid to watch it until last night for that reason. I still like it (for a little kiddy show), but that's off topic.

Now for the actual stuff:

Captain Planet: When it first came on I liked it, but I grew an intense hatred of the show because I felt (like I've said a hundred times before) Toxic Crusaders was the superiorly entertaining Eco show. And it didn't get preachy, it got fun. Not like the Captain here. Though I give credit to the first season having Woopie Goldberg as a voice over of the Godess of Earth.

Casper the Ghost. I have to admit, I liked the newer 90's Universal cartoon better. But every time I watch it, Casper just bores the heck out of me. The evil Ghosts have all the fun.
 
That has got to be some of THE most absurd bile I've heard spit out! Man, u've got NOOOO taste in animation, if ur gonna say that about a classic Looney Tune, u need to watch some GOOD cartoons.
 
Cow and Chicken: I use to watch this show all the time when I was a kid. Now when I see it, I say to myself: "I use to watch this crap?" The animation is awful, the "Red Guy" is very gay and the butt jokes are so stupid and repetitive.

New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh: ......No comment. :sweat:

And mostly the crap shows that evolved from Video Games (Donkey Kong Country and Megaman). If you haven't see those shows, good for you. Stick with the games.
 
I have to agree about 'Chip N' Dale Rescue Rangers' - Half because I'm now able to completely pan what was an animation "standard" of the era (glaring design errors, i.e. couldn't go through one episode without seeing either Dale and/or Gadget having black noses instead of their regular colors - red and pink, respectively - in one small set of frames); Half because the plots were mostly juvenile and derivative and seem small (like the team is) in comparison to the rest of the world.
 
Well if I had to pick one show that really stuck out in my mind as being dumb, it would have to be G.I.Joe, and there are a number of reasons as to why:

1. First off the Ruthless Terrorist Organization Angle. Let's face it, today's terrorists may not be as sophisticated as COBRA was, but still think about it, an organization of Terrorists. I really think back in the 1980's the word "Terrorist" was supposed to mean "Organized Terrorism" yet in today's world you have groups like Al Qaeda who just randomly target anyone.. Not just the free people of the world but anyone in particular, even if they are of the same religious/cultural backgrounds. But in COBRA's case, it was always, the folks who were Democratic and who's Free Governments that got targeted.. and that in itself defeats the term.. "Terrorist". COBRA was more of a Dictatorial Army of WWII Times, not today's modern terrorists who still are using backwater basics to keep folks in check. (Can we say 'Suicide bomber'? I knew we could!)

2. Then there's my favorite pet peeve of G.I Joe. You can destroy billions of dollars of tech, and yet NO ONE dies! Yep watch that F-15 Strike Eagle get blown out of the sky.. Watch as that Modified A-10 COBRA Rattler gets sshot down, but amazingly the pilot is able to eject out of the flaming wreckage! and of course watch as the Joe's blow up perhaps some of the most whacked out weapons (The Weather Dominator), known to man. (Heck that's why they originally made Weather Modification Illegal!)

3. Romance isn't supposed to be in the military..(Now granted if you're an military personnel, you're supposed to have a family worrying about you.. but the whole Duke/Scarlett thing, as well as the Lady Jaye/Flint thing seemed.. I dunno.. A bit contrived? and then don't forget the Baroness and Destro... Those two were MADE for each other!

Let's face it even in the G.I. Joe Movie, you had one guy (Flynt's younger Brother) crushing on a girl (Jynx).

And what about Mainframe and Zartanna? Oy.. if the phrase "Make Love Not War" was the catchphrase, well I would say Mainframe and Zartanna were the "Poster Children" who showed how it was supposed to be. He's the smart intelligent geek from the Good Guys, She's the bad girl disguise expert from the bad side of the tracks.. and they're in LOVE! (Oy...)

4. Next we have the 'this PSA was brought to you by all the G.I. Joe character bit'.. Frankly putting in a PSA at the end of any show is a bad idea.. Why? Because in the case of G.I. Joe, knowing the dangers was half the battle.. Yet a lot of times during the show, we had folks rushing blindly into battle not knowing what the evildoers were doing before they got halfway through the episode, and only then it was because of something way stupid. Like arrogance..

and finally:

5. When Wrestlers make Cameos as soldiers. Two words... Sgt. Slaughter.. Let's face it this guy was the wrestling federation's answer to the military? Oy..I would expect to see The Iron Shiek working with COBRA... after all seeing Sgt Slaughter Putting the Iron Shiek in a Head lock in the wrestling ring is one thing. Seeing Sgt. Slaughter putting Destro in a headlock and giving Chrome dome a Noogie? Totally stupid, and laughable at best. It's almost like we could have renamed this show, WWE Super slam against Terrorism...

In closing what Can I say about G.I. Joe? If the G.I Joe military was like it is today, when this series came out, There would be a total disbanding of Military on the grounds of a number of reasons..and thus in a way, COBRA would rule the world.. After all, G.I. Joe even though it's fantasy, really never showed the Military in a positive light.. and if COBRA was that bad? That the Joes could take them out easily?
Heck we could have gotten a certain evil dictator out of power.. way back in 1991. But then again.. we were always a bit overconfident.. even when dealing with so called Ruthless Terrorist organizations.

But eh, That's G.I. Joe for you..a total illogical approach to the look on today's military and socio-political ideologies.. (Oh and one final thing... Laser Rifles? Heck they're still in development... even today).

That is one of the most horrifying "jokes" I have ever heard of. I don't find violence against women to be funny at all. I weep for the generation that craves such depravity.
