Shows where the characters "made it home"

They were probably planning on having a feature-length series finale, but either the ratings or the funding probably fell through.

One of the most famous "series finales that goes nowhere" is InuYasha. Personally, I would have ended with Movie 3, or switched Movies 3 and 4 in chronological order. That way, we could have at least ended the continuity with InuYasha seeing his father, which was one of his main goals in the series.

Only 11 different ghosts were captured in "13 Ghosts of Scooby doo". The first episode, as already mentioned, had the 13 ghosts set loose, but another episode simply had them all escape again in the body of an octopus-like demon, which I don't think was one of the original 13.

All I know is that I've definitely seen an episode where they put all the ghosts back in the chest and give it back to Vincent Price.

EDIT: And according to Wikipedia and TV.com, 13 episodes were indeed made.

In the spirit of Caswin's signature, ReBoot has both "made it home" and "not made it home".

The second season ended on ABC with Bob being shot into the Web and Mainframe being at the mercy of Megabyte and Hexadecimal. Although ReBoot was canceled on ABC it was picked up in syndication allowing the third season to play out with Enzo's evolution into Matrix, finding and rescuing Bob and everyone returning to Mainframe to kick Megabyte's butt once and for all, as well as hinting at the Daemon threat. The fourth season, while reconciling the Daemon arc, brought back Megabyte and ended on the mother of all cliffhangers after some of the show's creators left Mainframe Entertainment.

Pirates of Dark Water is another series that never "made it home", if I recall correctly. I remember this only because of CN's old "Cartoon Mailbag" bumper where they aired the opening theme to PoDW only for it to cut to a black and white film of a cat lapping milk from a saucer in slow motion.
