Shows where a secondary character has become more popular than the Star???

I thought it was those episodes were very good, it must have been hard for both the cast, crew and writers to decide what they were going to do especially as they had already shot three episodes, they could have easily recasted the role but I think they made the right choice.
 
Jack and Karen from Will and Grace is a great example because while I like the show, it would have been improved if neither Will or Grace were in it.

How I Met Your Mother is another example because Ted is actually the character I care least about, it's Barney, Robin, Lily and Marshall that get the best line and situations.

There's actually an episode of CSI written by Chuck Lorre which is a hidden stab at sitcom divas like Cybill Shepherd.
 
What about The Day Today? Chris Morris at the helm, but Steve Coogan's sports presenter, a certain Alan Partridge was always hilarious and got a few 'fairly successful' spin oRAB.

Another would be Spaced. Brian, Mike and Marsha were superb characters and though secondary to the leads, I always found them funnier and were rarely wasted on screen.



I entirely agree. I couldn't see myself carrying with it if Harry left.
 
Family Guy - The titlular (giggity) character was quickly ousted by the brilliant Stewie - then Stewie and Brian, and only recently has the focus returned to Peter.
 
"Man About The House" - George Roper and his wife Mildrid stole every scene they were in and became the most popular characters.

They of course got their own spin off "George and Mildrid" which I believe is much more remembered than "Robins Nest."
 
Dad's Army - Even though Mainwaring (Arthur Lowe) was the main character.I always felt that Lance-Corporal Jones (Clive Dunn) was really the star of the show.He always got the funny lines & was involved in most of the mishaps.

Are You Being Served? - I don't know if Mr Humphries (John Inman) was meant to be the star of the show.But i thought between series 1 -7 Mr Lucas (Trevor Bannister) stole the show.
 
Both were outshone by George Constanza in my opinion. So many brilliant moments. Kramer could feel a bit forced at times. George's bits were grounded in realism for me.
 
I think Charlie's Angels was supposed to feature Kate Jackson (Sabrina) as the star, supported by Farrah Fawcett and Jaclyn Smith. The other Angels soon equalled (in Farrah's case, probably exceeded) her in popularity.
 
I find it pretty interesting how Farrah Fawcett was only in the first season (she was replaced by Cheryl Ladd - her on-screen sister- for the remainder of run) but she's regarded as the most infamous angel. Amazing what a hair cut can do.
 
Is Taggart the only series we know where the main character died and the series carried on without him/her (I am excluding the original Dr Who because that was part of the story)
