Shows that were trying too hard.

Personally, there's have been some shows I seen that was trying to hard to get some attention.

Ether by being to edgy, being to crazy or even being to dark. And, most of the time these shows don't even last that long.

One of the shows I'm talking about is Slacker Cats. When I saw the first episode of it, I knew the show wouldn't last. It felt like it was trying to be the next Family Guy and or South Park. It was trying to be edgy and rude. And, it felt like the jokes were a little force.

Look, if you going to make a show edgy and rude, learn how to do it right. I still say South Park knows how to use that style.

So, what shows you think was trying to hard to get some attention or kind of (or is) a rip-off from another show.

That's exactly how I feel. And that turned me away from the show. I got sick of all of the slang terms appearing on the screen like it was cool or something.

Rocket Power was one of the worst offenders. It came off as cheesy because of its slang terms that NOONE uses and to top it off, having the words appear on screen when someone would "beef" just made me want to punch the television even as a child.

Slacker Cats was definitely a piece of excrement, you could tell ABC Family was like "Wow look at how edgy and popular Family Guy and South Park are, we should create our own edgy cartoon" and it was one of the most forced shows I have ever seen. It almost seemed like even the cast wasn't enjoying doing the show. The performances seemed so phoned in as the rest of the series was.

Seriously, I think that's a big reason why some people feel insulted by Klasky-Csupo sometimes. Shows that try too hard get pretty annoying, 'cause they try to shove a point in your face and it gets overdone. It's only funny if it comes naturally, you shouldn't have to try.

Wow, I never knew Rocket Power was like that...

Another show I think was trying to be a little edgy and rude is The Oblongs. Though, there were some rare times I smurk, but thats all I can say to it. It was almost felt like a rip-off from The Simpsons. Almost...

Danny Phantom. Sometimes it tried to be an action show, sometimes it tried to be a comedy show, but it always fell flat. The whole romance thing between Danny and Sam also felt very forced. I could never get into the show.

Fairly Odd Parents
is another that at times was trying too hard. I was never an Odd Parents fan, but I would watch it usually because nothing else was on. At times the show came up some pretty hilarious jokes, but then they would ruin it by overusing the joke again, and again, and again. Eventually the once funny joke became stale and unfunny and you were just sick of hearing it.

I, like most thought Rocket Power tried too hard. Although, I didn't think it tried too hard to be hip or cool, but moreso it tried too hard being exteme with their extreme sports, like the half-pipe.

The slang was also another problem, like calling the new kid "Squid" or when Otto "popped a bindey" as the colourful eauphamism of breaking his leg. 0_0

Slacker Cats -- I watched one episode and it was kind of forced and fell flat.

Glenn Martin, DDS -- The show itself isn't all that bland if you ask me, but if you ask me, it just doesn't feel like it belongs on Nick at Nite. It tries too hard to have shock humour, but it falls flat with stale jokes.

Pokemon - I've never cared for the series and after watching an episode or so, I think it tried too hard to be a thirty-minute toy commercial.

I agree. Glenn Martin doesn't feel like the right show for Nick at Nite. I feel like it tries too hard to be edgy or having jokes that other kind of animated sitcoms have done in the past. In the end, I don't think that it works quite right.

Well, Pokemon pretty much is a thirty-minute toy commercial. The main reason why it's there is so that it can promote the video games. So, I'm not quite sure how it's trying too hard to be something that it already is and has been from the start.

The "Glenn Martin, DDS" animation is pretty choppy if you ask me. I mean, The PJ's have better animation then Glenn Martin DDS animation. I only smile once, but thats it. I'm not hoping to much out of that show.

And yes, that show is trying WAY to hard. Almost up to the level like Slacker Cats.

Well, personally, I find Digimon was trying to hard as a thirty-minute toy commercial. And it felt like a big rip-off from Pokemon.

But thats until I seen Bakugan.

Pokemon + Yu-Gi-Oh! + Digimon = Bakugan (Or Rip-Off)

You may want to clarify that to mean modern animated shows, because many animated shows of the past, including many Hanna-Barbera shows like The Flintstones and The Jetsons, employed a laugh track.

Robot Chicken tries way too hard at times, occassionly they will have a pretty good sketch but most of the jokes on that series are parodies I have already seen done (and much better) many times before on The Simpsons, Family Guy, etc.

It also focuses too much on violence and sexuality. Almost every sketch involves some cute character getting its head ripped off or making an 80's cartoon character into some cliche gay joke.

That is so true, only two of those were made AFTER the merchandise they were promoting, that being Yugioh and Pokemon. The Yugioh card game was around before the 1998 anime, and the Pokemon games were around before the anime aired in Japan. Digimon and Bakugan work way too hard to jump on the bandwagon of these series (Digimon on Pokemon's back and Bakugan on Yugioh's back, even though Yugioh was around before Digimon). /mini-rant

I have to second the sentiment that Robot Chicken tries too hard to be edgy and "adult". Every skit doesn't have to be about violence, death, perverse sex, defecation, dysfunctional marriages/families and suicide. They've proven from time to time that they can be genuinely funny without being shocking; I'd like to see them do bits like that more than once in a blue moon.

I like Glenn Martain DDS.

However Squirrel Boy trieds hard to be the next Rocko's Modern Life. but show only gain two season beacause it wasn't that greatof a show

Will & DeWitt tries to be Educational, but all the Education Vales are Use-less.

Tak & The Power of Juju tries sooo hard to live up to other Video Game base classics like "Kirby: Right Back at Ya!" & "Viewitful Joe", but like Squirrel Boy, The Tak animated series became an epic failure.

Other than both series involving children bonding with monsters, I don't really see a strong enough similarity between Pokemon and Digimon to say that Digimon is a rip-off from Pokemon. If you saw just one episode of Pokemon and one episode from any of the Digimon series, I would imagine that the differences are fairly obvious. Besides that, both animated series are based on different things. Pokemon is obviously based on the games, which first started from Red and Green for the Game Boy. Digimon, on the other hand, is based on those tamagotchi games, the ones where you had one little creature in a little pendent-like object. So, with all of their differences as a series and the fact that they're based on different games, I really don't see how Digimon is a rip-off from Pokemon.

I can understand why you would see Digimon in Bakugan, mainly because each kid has one talking Bakugan, similar in Digimon, and they're fighting to save their two worlds. Even so, there is still some differences between the two series. I know that they have cards for their monsters' affects, but I think that it's fairly different from how Yu-Gi-Oh! is played. Other than they throw their Bakugan into battle similar to how trainers throw their Pokeballs, I don't really see a similarity between Pokemon and Bakugan. Of course, that's just me.

That's nice. I respect your taste and I hope what I said about the show didn't come off as offensive since I wouldn't want to offend anyone's enjoyment for any show. I just don't particularly like the show myself and I was trying to respectfully describe why it doesn't appeal to me, but it's great that you do like the show.
