Doesn't Aus have a law about the safety rating having to be AUS xxxx or you get fined heavily?

In the US some states require a helmet, other don't. For those that do, it doesn't matter if its DoT, Snell, nothing or everything.

Correct, if you dont have the austrlalian standards sticker on the back of the helmet you can be fined.
