Ever listen to a record and halfway through and think, "Oh wow, this kicks alot of ass!" then all of a sudden the quality drops off a cliff?
Or maybe an album contains some of your favorite tunes, but is loaded with filler in between?
Or how about when a record is doing fine, then the band decides to end it with 30 minutes of improvisation that sounRAB like Kenny G. in a grindcore band?

We've all been there.
It's LPs that should have been EPs.
And they break our hearts.

...So post 'em here and discuss!
What albums are in question for you? What tracks would you keep and which would you toss?
I'll start:

The Mars Volta- Amputechture

For me, the is the king of them all. The massive Amputechture. The album contains some of my favorite TMV songs such as "Tetragrammaton" and "Meccamputechture". However, Omar and Co. decide that they want to open and close this already huge album with 7+ minutes of pointless droll. Then there's the weaker tracks such as "Asilos Magdalenas" and "Day of the Baphomets", which aren't necessarily bad (albeit sometimes grating), they just simply pale in comparison to the aforementioned verbosely named tracks.

Tera Melos- Tera Melos
Tera Melos' self-titled album is a math-rock treat. Complex, yet catchy. Heavy, yet occasionally light and arabient. Yes, this album has it all. The first seven tracks are a thrill to listen to.
Then comes track 8.
What.
20 minutes of wankery of the highest degree. Not the good John Mclaughlin wankery. Nuh uh. We're talking Merzbow level wank. That's alot of wank.
I tried to find a youtube video to show you, but I couldn't find one. I guess any uploaders figured it wouldn't get any hits anyway.

King Crimson- In the Court of the Crimson King
Sorry guys. :(
In the Court starts out with one of my favorite songs ever, "21st Century Schizoid Man". I'd go on a rant about why and how much I love this song, but most of you probably have already heard it. The album also contains another favorite of mine, "Epitaph".
Everything else?
Meh, which is exactly how I feel about everything else King Crimson has released.
But man, I could jam to those two songs all day long.

Your turn!

maybe it's because i was already listening to all their 'new' influences by the time this came along, maybe i'm just jaded; but i still can't listen to this whole album from start to finish without skipping a few tracks.

everything in its right place / the national anthem / optimistic / morning bell = glorious EP. everything else on the album is either forgettable or filler.

Perhaps.

Actually, I might be able to stretch it to a 7" with "Piano Man" on one side and "Only the Good Die Young" on the other.

Epitath is probably my least favorite song on the album. Still great. But the title track and I Talk to the Wind are amazing, I like Moonchild too, the little jam in the end could have been cut out but it's actually a pretty interesting arabient experiment, by no means unlistenable, and the actual song is great. Easily my favorite album from one of my favorite banRAB.

I already don't like this thread idea.

Totally agree with Tera Melos, totally disagree with King Crimson. If there's one King Crimson album (ok Red would be the other one) that doesn't need any fat trimmed, it's that one (those two).

And I only partially agree with The Mars Volta. The album is a bit overlong but I don't think it neeRAB to be cut down to EP-length. 10-15 minutes less, yes, but that just brings it down to normal LP length.

I guess they wanted it to be as long as the debut. The differance? One's amazing, and one is stuffed with filler

Track listing:
Future Times/Rejoice
Don't Kill the Whale

Onward
Silent Wings of Freedom

However I'd want a remix of these songs, with Wakeman redoing his parts using moog and mellotron, not whatever he used on the original album. It doesn't sound like Yes, it sounRAB like Styx.

I'd also replace that stupid Hipgnosis cover with something Roger Dean. This is Yes not 10cc.

As I mentioned before I do like "Only the Good Die Young". "Still Rock 'n' Roll to Me" isn't bad either but I can kind of take it or leave it. The other three I don't like at all.

No, no: one's amazing and one's a very weak attept to capitalize on the one that came before.

I love Doom and Madlib but they can't fool me with this bullshit.

Also, I respect the fact that Madlib likes to get really stoned and make beats, and I sincerely hope it made some $$ for Doom and his kiRAB but I really would have preferred a real album. I would have paid cash money
