Shoulder MRI Results

Was wondering if anyone could help me understand my MRI results:
Findings: There is mild to moderate overgrowth of the acromioclavicular joint. there is also mild marrow edema about the acromioclavicular joint.
There is edema and trace fluid inthe subacromial space.
The unenhanced labrum is unremarkable

is this per chance an MRI of your shoulder? the wordings just sound sooo familiar to what my shoulder/rotator MRI talked about. this just sounds like you DO have some type of actual bone spurring going on within that acro joint which is the main joint of that whole shoulder area, and definitely alot of inflammation too hence the bone marrow edema and the other free fliud just being there at all. have you had a consult eval with a good ortho surgeon on these findings? did this look at the actual tendons within the rotator cuff too? what was this particular MRI done for, the symptoms?

what is really strange tho as far as how a certain finding is described by the rad? if this actually is the rads wording or yours would make a huge difference here in understanding what he is seeeing. the acrominion joint? it mentions the overgrowths in kind of an odd way as being "moderate overgrowth OF(and not IN) the acrom joint"? this just sounds kind of strange to me. usually this is IN the joint and can create alot of pain and also loss of ROMs too depending upon just how bad it is. just having it state 'of' sounds strange. seeing an ortho for that eval/consult really would be a good idea. this is about the only true way of knowing what these finding mean to you when he or she can also just see your hardfilms too, ya know?

its just all that the rad reports are are kind of a "basic idea' of certain findings as the rad sees them, not always exacting, trust me there. this is where the actual specialist comes in for their interprettation of your films along with their own eval of ROMS and your symptoms too. then they take a look at all of the info gatherted to kind of best define your situation, and any options you may have to help deal with it.

just an FYI for ya here, but there are alot of people who have rotator cuff issues or other shoulder issues here who mostly post on those two top boards with the general health and the board for any health questions too? i cannot remember how that other board is actually named up there, but there ARE many people up there who could also help you with this too. this is mainly a back board area here so you wont get the best possible info here like you would up in one of those two areas. they really DO need an area just for the shoulder on these boards but have not gotten there yet. LOTS of people have posted about their shoulder problems on those two boards i mentioned above this one. there are alot of threads up in the two boards i mentioned that you can try and look up and see what might pertain to you and your situation too. just a suggestion for ya. but DO seek out an ortho for that consult/eval if you have not already done so. the bone spurs there just really need clearing and the reason for that level of inflammation found out too. i wish you luck with this. please do keep me posted. marcia

Thank you very much for the reply and yes this is of my left shoulder. I have not yet seen a specialist on the reading. I went direct to the hosipital to get a copy of the report. My Dr will take about a week to call me, then I will be referred to a specialist. What I wrote above I took right off the report. Some of those words just do not make sense to me and I know that they are not supposed to but it would be nice to have some sort of idea of what is going on. So basically from what you get from it , that there is a lot of inflammation in the shoulder and possible bone spurs. Once I get to an actual specialist I will let you know.

yep, thats kind of just my 'take" on what was there as interpretted by the rad. i would most defintiely seek out an ortho surgeon for the best possible eval on this and what needs to be done here. it really DOES appear that you have ALOT of inflammation going on in there. did it state anything about how your tendons look? if there was not anything in that summary at the end about them, trust me here, that was a really really great thing. tendon tears and actual snapping like mine did is a true nasty surgical recovery with mandatory PT just to even begin to get your ROMS back. just given the way that joint sounds with all that heavy spurring going on which does if not now, will eventually inhibit rotation and movement or make it really really painful at best. this is how, or at least one of the many ways people can end up with whats called a 'frozen shoulder"? so its good that this is being found now vs later when that shoulder just kind of locks up on you as far as true ROMS being there anymore?

an ortho can actually go in with just a scope and tiny holes made during a surgical procedure and actually clear out that crap that you have within the joint there. it is in most cases a very minimally invasive procedure. but DO please keep me posted as to what you find out from the eventual consult. what treatment are you using right now for this? is it really painful? what symptoms did you have going on that actually led to the referral for the MRI to begin with? marcia

Marcia thanks again, and I will go to the ortho on this but have to wait for my primary to refer. He still has not called me with my results. The pain comes and goes, right now I am taking 800 Motrin's to keep the inflammation down but I hate taking them for a very long time. What originally happened is that i rolled one morning to get out of bed and I heard something in my shoulder and I collapsed and it hurt like heck all the way down my arm up my neck.. For a few days I just had a really hard time turning my head could not but chin to chest or turn head to the right or left with out exteme pain and not all the way. I had muscle spasm so bad that you could see them thru my clothes, DR had given me flexeral but that did nothing for me but help me sleep. That is when I requested a MRI and here I am now. I am wondering if I was not taking the 800 Motrin before the MRI if the inflammation would have came back worse ... I will keep you posted as well.
