Shoulder MRI - pls explain/serious

I sustained my injury just over two months ago (a fall from a scooter on vacation on to outstretched arm) and from my continuing lack of ROM and pain and pain in my shoulder when I sleep I would say healing is not going very well.

I have had an MRI. arthrogram, ultrasound and xray - but have been told just do physio (which I have been for 2 months) - but have insisted on seeing on orthopedic surgeon just in case.

I would appreciate a general interpretation on my MRI results and how serious this may be??

1. Supraspinatus focal articular partial thickness tear measuring approx. 11 x 6 mm and extending 50% way through tendon
2. Supraspinatus bursal surface tendinopathy
3. Focal tear in the interior fibers of teres minor.
4. Focal tear in the adjacent joint capsule as the gadolinium signal intensity fluid flows into this defect
5. Irregular fraying of long head of biceps tendon just proximal to insertion into glenoid labrum
6. Minor fraying or irregular nondisplaced tear high glenoid labrum anterior superior quadrant.
7. Biceps tendonitits
8. 6mm Benign enchondroma in surgical neck of Humerus

And apparently I have a type IV acromion.

Thanks for any intrepretation or thoughts on severity.

honestly? none of this is going to get better with any type of PT. you are very right in that you simply have to see a good ortho for a full eval and consult as to how he can fix the areas that have definite problems, tears. this just is some pretty extensive damage to have in the shoulder area(i am really shocked that only PT was recommended for this much damage?). it would require some level of surgical intervention to even get back the ROMS you have lost. you also want to get that supra fully sewen back together BEFORE it has a complete tear, which would happen over time. i just went thru the complete tear in my supra and had it fixed last feb. you just need the expert opinion of a good ortho who specializes in shoulders right now. your MRI kind of says it all as far as extent of real damage in there. find a good ortho who has this as his or her specialty. they would be able to tell you exactly what is needed to get your shoulder working properly. i would stay the heck away from doing ANY PT on this shoulder at all til you have seen that ortho to know whether or not it would work at all, which i really have my doubts about, but it could also make your problems ten times worse too. you just wont know anything really until you get that expert opinion of your films and they run you thru the ROMS. but get thee to a good ortho soon. this is what i did once i got my MRI results. glad i did becasue i too had alot of wear and tear damage with a complete tear in that supra and the one underneath it had a partial.
i do wish you luck with this. please keep me posted on what you find out. FB

Thank you for confirming what I felt and I guess, knew...I have already stopped physio because I have a TENS machine at home, and can work on gentle ROM and heat and ice - until I can get in to ortho doc.

I had my doctor write a referral to 3 good ortho docs and hopefully I won't have to wait too long - alot of people here are waiting average 3 wks - 8mths just to get in for the first consult let alone scheduling for surgery after that. Wish I knew how to escalate this since the pain is constant and quite substantial (and I have a high pain threshold) and my ROM sucks!!

And I too agree that it is amazing that my doc just said go do PT...it pays to be an informed patient and go after what you may need and not just sit back and say "woe is me"!!

Thx!
